Hey,
So I’m exactly 18 weeks pregnant today and I had some pains and a lot of discharge popped in to maternity day unit and it turns out to be amniotic fluid and I have an infection. My baby still has a strong heartbeat and is moving around! Doctors keeping me in and said they’ll monitor us both but can’t do much more than treat the infection but if the treatment fails I’ll be asked to terminate... has anyone been in a similar position? What should I do? I definitely won’t terminate!

Not quite the same but couldn’t read and run. I had similar at 24 weeks, so a bit further on. I was given antibiotics and scanned to check fluid levels and baby and swabbed twice weekly until 34 weeks when another infection meant that they delivered DS.

Who said you will be asked to terminate? And for what reason exactly?

Asked to terminate? Sorry I would ignore that too. Damned weird comment.

The advice to terminate is because if the amniotic fluid is leaking at such an early gestation, the outlook for baby isn't great. Plus if there's already an infection, this adds to risk for mum.

How were your fluid levels? X

I’ll only be asked to terminate if the infection gets drastic which it seems to be controlled for now. It’s a very last (life or death) resort for me though! X

They stayed at the low side of normal until near the end and then an infection meant that they whipped him out.

The swabs and blood tests picked up the infection early on.

I still have water surrounding baby I just don’t have to much the hope is that I will gain more than I loose daily. The infection seems under control for now. So I have everything crossed 🤞🏻 X
