Hi

I was just wondering if people had 7 week scans even when everything seems all well. I've had no bleeding, and had morning sickness. It's my first try so no history of miscarriage. I just wanted to check it had a good heart best in case I have to tell people before 12 week. Will the sonographer ask me why I'm having the scan?

Why not, if it puts your mind at rest. No one else's business. Good luck and congrats.

I had one at 6 + 8 weeks (yesterday) it’s definitely worth the £ for some reassurance ❤️

I’ve got one booked for next week (will be 7-8 weeks). I’ve got 2 DC, no history of MC. I just would like the reassurance! Had one at a similar time with DC2 too.

I had one in your situation and she didn't ask or hint at all as to why I was there.
Currently 33 weeks and love that I've got the early scan photo to compare to the 12 and 20 week ones - blows my mind how quickly they change!

Lots of people chose to have an early private scan for peace of mind. The sonographer won't mind why you're doing it, they might only ask as small talk.

On the NHS you will very likely only be referred for an early scan with a suspected problem, or a history of problems.

It’s not unusual to have an early private scan (the NHS won’t do one obviously). But you’re paying them, so it’s none of their business anyway and they won’t care. I had a private scan at 8 weeks with my 2nd pregnancy. Unfortunately, that showed a mmc, but I had it purely because I wanted to see how things were going. I had another with my next pregnancy (after the mc) as well and neither time were they at all concerned with why I wanted to do it.

Whilst we have had a previous loss and struggled with infertility we decided to have a viability scan at 8 weeks. That was 3 weeks ago and our 12!weeks scan is coming up soon. It certainly calms the nerves.

A private early scan is around £80-£120 and I would strongly advise waiting until week 8 as you'll be past the bean looking stage and baby will be much more developed than say at 7 weeks. Anything before and you may only see a flickering bean and may want another scan before hitting week 12.

Good luck and congratulations.

Lots of women, including myself, choose to have early scans for reassurance.
