Hi there, I'm new to the board and was hoping to speak with other northern Ireland based expectant mums/mums?
I am high risk for neural tube defects as my brother died of spina bifida and anencephaly at birth. I am roughly 11 weeks now and due my 12 week scan in 2 weeks but I was wondering if any other mums were high risk and do you get offered any other scans between 12 and 20 week or other tests or anything?!
I have been to early pregnancy clinic as I had a threatened miscarriage but all seems ok so far.

Thanks in advance!! Smile

Hi OP- didn’t want to read and run. I’m an NI Mum as well.

I had the majority of my maternity care in Dublin, where the only screening offered was the 20 week scan- I had to pay privately for a 12 week scan where the sonographer kindly pointed out that there were no markers to suggest dd wasn’t healthy. She didn’t have to do that- technically they would have expected me to pay for genetic screening.

Now I’m back up north, my understanding is that they automatically test high risk mums. It would be worth ringing your community midwife- they can tell you straight!

Thank you!! I think I will as i find the wait the worst bit but as long as I know and have a fair idea what's happening I think that will help. Thanks again x
