So went to the midwife today 39 + 3 days and had a sweep. Midwife said cervix is still long and thick. Any ideas how to bring on labour, got another sweep booked in for next week which i will be 3 days over. Was 6 days over with my first baby and really don't fancy going over due date. Any tips would be great.
Midwife suggested sex and to use the birthing ball!
Thank you in advance x

I had my first sweep with DD at 40+6, my cervix was favourable but the sweep didn’t do a thing.

I went again 3 days later (after suspecting my waters were leaking) and she performed another sweep, she said that I was 5-6 cm dilated already (I had absolutely no pain and went home to chase cows along the road Grin) DD was born the next morning at 1:45am. I was booked in for an induction at 6am if she hadn’t arrived by then.

There's no evidence that sweeps before the due date so anything so I'm not sure why they do this is some places. Sex is the only thing that actually might get things going (you can eat as much pineapple and curry as you like, it's not going to make a difference. It's mostly the hormones in the semen that do it, so technically you don't need sex...I was wailing at my DH 'I don't want sex, I just need your semen!' 😬

I went into labour without warning on my due date, so don't lose hope!

They refuse to do sweeps here before 40 weeks unless signed by a consultant. I have two hospital appts today and asked if it could be done there, at 39+6, mw was adamant it has to be Saturday!

To be honest it's best to get a check first as sweeps only work if something has started to happen to the cervix and then they leave you feeling rather disheartened.

You never know, tomorrow could be a different story!

@Spam88 your post made me literally lol XD.

@Spam88

Your so funny!! Yes I tried to eat pineapple but it's given me bad acid indigestion
I know where you coming from tho @Spam88 as cba with the sex just want the good stuff that will help me get this baby out. Going to get on the ball over the weekend see if that does anything. If not will have to do the deed as can't bare the thought of going 12 days over Sad struggling to think how you do the deed when your so big I feel like a beached whale! Oh please baby hurry up.
Worse thing is I've had no symptoms apart from Braxton Hicks and even they have mild. Confused

My DH wasn't forthcoming 🙄

Honestly though, I had literally nothing. No braxton hicks, my mucus plug hadn't gone, nothing even vaguely resembling a contraction. I though she was never coming out. But then my contractions started, waters went and I lost my plug all in very quick succession!

YummyMummy247 · 12/05/2018 06:30

@Spam88

Did you actually do the deed then? Mentioned it to my husband and he is like freaking out! Grin
Going to try a birthing ball over the weekend tbh I've heard if your anxious about labour it won't come it's like that more or less when your due on from what I remember. It just doesn't happen.

I just can't stop thinking about my sweep. When she said it was long and thick and then keep thinking I'm having no signs. Sad
Last night we went out for my birthday for tea and when o got into bed started to feel like I had cramps but it went so nothing really. Put it down to the amount of food I consumed. WinkCake

I'm not due till Monday so the ball it's going to be as well as plenty of walking... Well as much as I can do with a sore aching leg! xx

We did yeah, although I can't remember when and I don't remember thinking it had any particular effect. We only DTD twice during my pregnancy because it completely freaked him out (and I couldn't be bothered).

Your cramps could have been something :) early labour can last for days and it can come and go. It's all doing good stuff to your cervix though 👍

LexieLulu · 12/05/2018 08:06

See when I was overdue I made my DH have sex with me a lot (I would say he must have been loving it, but I was the size of a beached whale).

In the end I gave up and thought I was having an induction, then the babies cane by their own.

My MW said nipples tweaking to stimulate milk tricks body and can help, also orgasms will make your inners contract and can kick things off x

Dreamingofkfc · 12/05/2018 08:33

It's unusual to offer a sweep until 41 weeks for second time mums. Don't be too disheartened, baby just isn't quite ready yet. Try sex and going on the longest walk you can manage.

FranticallyPeaceful · 12/05/2018 10:08

Is there any reason you had an early sweep? From what I’ve been told they rarely work, so I wouldn’t worry. I had one at 40w with my previous and it did absolutely nothing but I was induced at 40+8 (she took pity on the fact he was absolutely massoooof).

The last parts of pregnancy are just disgustingly uncomfortable, but unfortunately it is what it is. You’ll give birth and feel absolutely grand being able to move again (other than the afterbirth discomforts). You’re so close now! Flowers

Pebblespony · 12/05/2018 10:10

Not sure any of these things work unless the baby is coming anyway.

YummyMummy247 · 12/05/2018 14:27

My midwife said with me wanting to give birth in the MLU I could have sweeps from 39 weeks.
Like I said it was unsuccessful Sad and with my husband getting freaked out by the whole sex thing. Tbh I don't want to be doing it myself I just cba. But getting fed up of being pregnant now. So got the whole softening of the pelvis but my left leg is in agony it's sore in my left knee then all along the front of my left leg then into my ankle. Struggling to get walking when I've been sitting and then when I actually start walking it's sore. Paracetamol is taking the edge off but still sore. So even tho I want to do the long walks it's hard going. Doctor said its normal and May last a little after pregnancy. Sad

Been on the ball this morning for a little and felt a slight sharp pain in my right pelvis. Been feeling tighting but nothing other than that. Can't believe she is due Monday was convinced she would come early but deffo thinking she will be late.
Praying not too late.
Thank you for your kind reassuring words it's very kind of you xx
