Hi,
Hoping to meet some ladies in a similar situation. When I say obese I mean properly obese, not just a bit chubby.
Im size 26 and 7 wks pregnant with my first.
I would really appreciate advice, tips, etc.
Hope to find some new friends.

'It' is the goady fucker BTW

PigletMum40 · 10/05/2018 22:00

Good luck, I was in the same position as you and had the most amazing births and now DCs. A few comments from the occasional doctor but enjoy it all!

HeresMeh · 10/05/2018 22:01

ITS NOT CELEBRATING ANYTHING YOU UTTER MORON! @Isadora666

It's got NOTHING to do with alcoholics or heroin addicts!

It's a thread about support for plus size pregnancies.

Piss off you absolute weirdo!

AnotherOriginalUsername · 10/05/2018 22:01

@Isadora666 being "obese" is just a snap shot.

I'm obese. But I'm down from super-morbidly obese. I lost 12 stone prior to falling pregnant, purely by my own hard work. I'm obese but I run marathons and have also did an ultra marathon last year - 100km (63 miles). Can you do that? I'm cycling 100 miles in July, obese and then will be 4 1/2 months pregnant. I started cycling less than 6 months ago. Can you do that?

Go take your bigoted opinions and shove them where the sun don't shine. I can offer you my obese arse if you want?

doesthisnamelookgoodonme · 10/05/2018 22:02

People can see that you're a member so it may be best to save the link and wait till after your scan and people are aware xx

@Isadora666 go and have some cake, maybe an orgasm or two, might cheer you up lovely

HeresMeh · 10/05/2018 22:02

@AnotherOriginalUsername 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

Doesthiscountasausername · 10/05/2018 22:03

Normally with an increased BMI you’ll be offered extra scans to check growth as you’ll be at an increased risk of having a large baby and also difficult for a midwife to measure your uterus accurately. There is also a NHS approved maternity slimming world package if your intrested OP. Just try to follow follow a healthy balanced diet throughout pregnancy if you can, treating yourself to sweets every now and then! Congratulations on the pregnancy!

AnotherOriginalUsername · 10/05/2018 22:04

"have also did". Why the hell isn't there an edit button on MN 😂

TeachingPuffin · 10/05/2018 22:06

Isadora, please stop. I'm not quite sure why, but something is making you really angry, and I refuse to believe it is the risk obese women pose to their unborn babies. As has been pointed out to you already, the women posting on this thread are obese and pregnant. Not much we can do about that now. Or should we have abortions? Because that would clearly eliminate all risks we pose to our babies...Hmm I have no idea where you are finding glorification of obesity in pregnancy, but it ain't on this thread. FWIW, to quitting smoking is a piece of piss compared to losing weight!

Right, I'm done being restrained now: you're a fucking bitch for putting down a bunch of women you don't know. Your disdain is so obvious, and you clearly think we don't care about our babies. I'm having counseling because I'm already feeling so horrible about the potential impact of my weight on my pregnancy. You sound bitter and I really hope your children don't grow up to be as judgemental and nasty as you.

BakedBeans47 · 10/05/2018 22:07

This thread is bizarre, are you somehow celebrating the extra risk you are losing to your baby? People will be along to tell me off but if you said you were smoking or drinking heavily through your pregnancy everyone would be on your back, but obesity is socially acceptable.

It’s also not something you can immediately change overnight, unlike drinking and smoking.

I don’t think there are many people who would say being obese and pregnant is ideal, but life often isn’t ideal. There’s nothing wrong with OP wanting to know about other’s experiences, perhaps BECAUSE she knows it’s not ideal.

OP good luck in your pregnancy and ignore the idiot. Bet she’s the type who wouldn’t say boo to a goose in real life.

HeresMeh · 10/05/2018 22:09

⬆️ perfect!

BakedBeans47 · 10/05/2018 22:12

I had additional scans in my second pregnancy because my first baby was quite small. Not tiny (6lb 10 at a week overdue) but because I was also larger the personalised growth charts would have expected him to be bigger.

HeresMeh · 10/05/2018 22:12

Oh my god. She's just started a thread in 'pregnancy' called "smoking and pregnant" asking for support!

What a complete twat.

BakedBeans47 · 10/05/2018 22:14

What a dick

TeachingPuffin · 10/05/2018 22:16

Thanks @HeresMeh !

I was actually still being restrained in my comment, didn't want it to get deleted

AnotherOriginalUsername · 10/05/2018 22:19

How long before the "pregnant heroin user" thread do we think?

HeresMeh · 10/05/2018 22:23

Poor @Pob13

Sorry this threads been hijacked.

Let's get back on track. I'm 12+2 today with a BMI of 35. I'm 5ft 7 and 16st 4lbs.

I lost 2 stone prior to my current stats above and the intention was always to be a salad eating goddess once pregnant but so far the all day boke is making sure that doesn't happen!!!

I think it's key to look after yourself as best you can, convey any worries to your midwife or consultant and take care.

On the plus side (no pun intended!) we get a few more scans than normal so that's lovely!

There's some fab plus size pregnancy Instagram accounts to follow for help and advice also!

TeachingPuffin · 10/05/2018 22:26

Ooh, I'm not on Instagram, but can you recommend any names? Finding it surprisingly difficult to find pics of overweight bumps!

HeresMeh · 10/05/2018 22:31

@TeachingPuffin

I loved this video instagram.com/p/BeBjLmBgwj5/

Also if you search the hashtag #Plussizepregnancies there is SO much that comes up including real life humans and experiences as well as the more glossy commercial type pages...

I find it really interesting searching the hashtag and finding similar body types to mine... I find it quite relieving and calming!

AnotherOriginalUsername · 10/05/2018 22:35

I don't understand Instagram, I'm not "down with the kids" as the 16 year old apprentice at work tells me!

That's an interesting video. I'm pretty sure I already look 6 months pregnant Confused I'm obviously not showing yet, but my body shape has really changed and I'm feeling it on my back a bit. Can't wait for my sports masseuse to return to work from injury to sort my back out whilst I can still lie on my front!

yorkshireyummymummy · 10/05/2018 22:49

Good luck ladies! I had my dd ten years ago , obese then, still obese now. But i have stopped smoking AND drinking in the last ten years so I’m healthier than I was.
Just a couple of things I would like to say. Try not to put much weight on - I actually lost weight while pregnant ( god knows how). I had pre eclampsia which does run in my family but my weight put me at higher risk. I now have blood pressure problems from the pre eclampsia ( I didn’t have bp problems before. ) So just take care and try to eat healthy. I know it isn’t easy though. I felt so grotty from 8 weeks to 18 weeks all I could eat were things like toast, findus crispy pancakes (!!??) - no veg, no fruit, nothing ‘ good’ - it just made me throw up. So I do know how hard it is, I’m just hoping to help a bit.

I hope you all have wonderful, nice pregnancies and trust me, people like that troll bitch don’t really exist in RL. They most certainly don’t say it to your face anyway!
You will be more highly monitored, you will be classed as high risk , you will get more scans and you will have to have your baby in a hospital.

My next piece of advice is please if you can try to have a natural birth. I don’t know if you are more likely to have a c section if you are fat but I tell everybody - obese or not- to, if possible avoid c sections. This is because I have been left with chronic abdominal pain due to adhesions. You can get adhesions if you are big or tiny so it’s got nothing to do with weight. But adhesions are thoroughly awful and there’s nothing that can be done to stop them. They can be cut away but they have to cut you to get in which just causes more adhesions. I do not want to scare anybody, I s8mply want to give you the heads up. I didn’t have a choice re my c section. And I would go through it all again to have my wonderfully fabulous darling daughter.

Enjoy your pregnancies - it’s the most wonderful time. I wish you all the very best of good health, nice births and wonderful times ahead with your little darlings. It’s the most fantastic thing in the world being a mummy. And fat mummy’s give THE best cuddles! X

Hi Pob!
I'm Size 26 (so yep I'm obese obese) and 37 weeks pregnant with baby no 2. I also have a 21 month old.

I also have a huuuuge bump this time too!!

Pob13 · 11/05/2018 08:15

Hi all,
Had to switch off last night. I have never before been made to cry by a stranger on the internet! Ended up having a proper meltdown, why was this person mean, was I doing the right thing, am I a bad mum before it's even born, etc etc.
Luckily my lovely DH came home and convinced me it was just one idiot on the internet.
Thank you all for the lovely support and comments.

And yes, let's get back on track.

OP posts:
FairfaxAikman · 11/05/2018 08:37

Congratulations to you all.

I was 16/17 stone when I fell pregnant, having lost three stone.

The result of that pregnancy is now a week old.

I found that most professionals did not judge. If they did they kept it to themselves.

I had extra scans at a metabolic clinic and regular checks.

One thing that did annoy me slightly at the time is that I was refused a water birth as I needed constant monitoring.
In hindsight I am glad of that as we had a complication completely unrelated to my weight, and related to hereditary issues with local anaesthetics (which they were well warned about in advance but didn't believe me), and he had to come out the sunroof.

Dvg · 12/05/2018 12:52

Im also obese and 7 months pregnant, (Size 20 and 5ft 4)
I have joined slimming world which is helping with eating healthy and have so far been losing about 4-6 pounds a week although i have had a few gains from those cravings :P but i'm mostly losing/

Being obese definitely has taken its toll on me pregnancy wise as i feel SO guilty about being so unfit .. i cant even bend down to put my socks or shoes on but thankfully i have a wonderful helpful partner.

I worry about looking after my son when he is born as i am in so much pain and walking is SO hard even with the waddle! I hate how i've let myself get this way but im trying to become better, for his sake.

Thankfully the midwifes and consultant have been really kind about it to me and i also Quit smoking so don't feel like a complete failure and my GTT results came back clear so at least thats another worry out of the way but if i had been slim i would have opted for a home birth but i have to go to the hospital now because of BMI risks.
