Hello Ladies

I have just registered here today as I need some advise on travel, please.

Please can you let me know if you travelled to a hot country (4-5 hours flight) around week 28-30 of your pregnancy and how it went.

I'm 19 weeks now and I'm very blessed not to have any bad symptoms but this can obviously change any day.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thank you very much indeed.

Maggie

Not a hot country but I did travel at 30 weeks in my second pregnancy (with a one year old!) and it was absolutely fine.

Not a holiday as such but I flew between the UK and the Middle East regularly when I was pregnant - my last flight being at 36 weeks from ME to UK. It was absolutely fine. Get an aisle seat, have a walk up and down occasionally and keep hydrated on the flight. Same during the holiday - take it easy and keep hydrated. Make sure your holiday insurance covers you for any pregnancy relayed emergencies. And enjoy!

There's some useful information here www.babycentre.co.uk/x2599/is-it-safe-to-fly-during-pregnancy

Just make sure you declare your pregnancy with your insurers and that ALL complications are covered and the baby is also covered if born early.

Yes, I did with both of mine. It was absolutely fine. Second time was a bit of a pain as my 17 month old would only sit on my knee on the plane and there isn’t much room with a bump and a toddler! Then we were delayed and sat on the runway for 4 hours....
Otherwise fine! You’ll probably need a ‘fit to fly’ letter.

I'm hoping to go on holiday at around the same time, one last break before it arrives! I went away last weekend at 10 weeks and rang my insurance to check I didnt need to prewarn them, which I didnt. Most will cover complications but not birth after around 28 weeks (though I would say birth at 28 weeks is an issue!) So best to check when cover stops just in case. Also check with the airline and when they let you fly until as they differ. Finally, just in case make sure wherever you are going has good medical facilities (hopefully you won't need them!). We're thinking of sticking to mainland Europe for this reason. Good luck! X

I flew to Spain at 35+4 and flew back at 36+4. It was fine. I flew accompanied only by my 6 year old. I'd booked the holiday before I knew I was pregnant and was definitely not foregoing it. I had to cancel the original flights as their cut off for carrying pregnant women was 35 weeks. Ryanair would take me as long as journey was completed by 37 weeks. There was a form I had to get signed by my midwife to say I was a low risk pregnancy and good to fly. The holiday was lovely.

I should've said I took my notes with me, had specific insurance to cover all birth options, and knew where the nearest hospital was!
