Hi, my partner is 11 weeks pregnant with twins, we experienced very heavy bleeding yesterday went to a and e where the cervix is closed and the scan showed to healthy babies but after waking up this morning found a rather large clot of just blood, could this be where my partner was lying still last night and the blood that was remaining has just clotted, I am trying to be strong for my partner but am going out of my mind a little, any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I’m really sorry for you that you’re both experiencing this, usually the blood will pool whilst laying down and will come out as a gush. Not sure if it would clot until it’s been exposed to oxygen. But I’m not a doctor. Is she in any pain? Did A&E refer her to the EPAU?
I would suggest she tries to get an appointment so you can both have another detailed scan.
Wishing you the best.

Thank you for your reply
No real pain just mild cramping/stretching which they are saying is the uterus expanding, they are unsure of where the bleeding is coming from as all looks good from the scan, there is still some minor bleeding today I can only assume is what's left from yesterday, I forgot to mention she is on a blood thinning injection daily to stop blood clots, which may be making minor blooming a lot worse. Think we have had about 5 scans already with bleeding

Hi there, when I was preg with my first I got to 16 weeks and bled out of the blue, a lot. So much that my husband rang an ambulance it was such a shock! They took me to epau and scanned me and the baby was absolutely fine they could see no reason for the bleed. I had a heavy sort of feeling like a pulling type sensation I remember telling the paramedic. Anyway the bleeding carried on for 3 weeks! I had clots and everything it was so very distressing. I was told that unless I had pain, or passed more than a pad full in one hour or an extremely large clot that I just had to watch and wait! It was not easy
But a week before my 20 weeks scan it stopped, randomly after passing a very large clot! And my child is 5 years old now.
The absolute best thing you can do is tell her to rest rest rest.
Best of luck to you both.

Thank you for sharing, it is reassuring, she is definately resting bless her, the random big blood clot this morning was very distressing but was just blood, but no more today just slight pinkish blood. Have another scan next Thursday so hopefully all fine. Again thank you

I had bleeding at 8-9 weeks which lasted about 10 days in total. It was bright red with clots at first then tapered off to pink then brown. Baby is fine they have said it was a haematoma in my uterus thankfully. But since this happening I have come across a lot of people reporting similar stories as it seems to be rather common!! I had wished someone had warned me before lol as it scared the life out of me.
Hopefully all remains well with you and your wife. All the best for your scan!! Flowers

Thankyou so so much, the support on here is great, there is no bleeding today and just mild cramps just can't wait for scan now.

Try not to get too discouraged if the bleeding seems to stop then starts again. That happened with me a few times and cramps too but I was assured unless it was excruciatingly painful or extremely heavy then they were happy enough.
Good luck !!
