Baby hiccups

When the baby hiccups what does it feel like?

I can feel it kicking alright but no movements which make me think could be hiccups.

I'm not sure if I should be worried or not. Does everyone feel the baby hiccuping? Is it a bad sign if they don't hiccup?(?) I do have some excess chub on my belly so maybe that's masking any hiccuppy movements.

And another thing, I'm 29 weeks and some websites say that Braxton Hicks could have started by now. I know it's early (or is it?) but I get tightenings but I'm pretty sure it's just the baby having a move about and not BH. My belly goes hard but it feels like it's hard because a baby is there. I will know if I get them won't I?

This is my first incase it wasn't blatantly obvious!

It's all very anxiety-inducing, whether it's your first or your fifth.
You'll know if baby is hiccuping. They're proper hiccups. Two of mine were hiccuppers. One wasn't. I just wouldn't worry at all about that.

And yes, BH is also totally normal at this stage which explains the rock-hard tightening.

Best of luck!

Thanks for your response. I'm not really worried but wondering if I should be worried (if that makes sense).

Ah, I just thought the tightening was the baby having a shuffle round!

So would the hiccuping be like a jumping sort of motion?

This may sound irritating but you will recognise hiccups. Singular movement in one spot rhythmic and repetitive. My son had them several times a day everyday from about 25 weeks. Used to drive me insane!

Thanks @GiraffeObsessedBaby I suppose it's like asking someone to describe labour! But what you said it really helpful - thank you

Ah yes I used to get so mad that everyone would say "you'll just know" I'm one of these people who like to understand and know and prepare. But they were right lol I did know.

I didn't feel hiccups at all with my first but did with my second. I didn't have Braxton Hicks with either. All pregnancies are different.

I figured out yesterday that the baby has been having hiccups because she was making a (way too) regular movement in one location for a length of time.

So what made me think 'what is that?' was because it was too close together time-wise and regular to be a punch or kick. No one/baby would be beating out that repetitive of a movement with their arm/leg. I hope this makes sense.

You could see the hiccups from the outside as well - its rhythm/frequency looked a bit like 'hic, hic, hic'.... all spaced out the same frequency. She seems to get episodes of these a few times a day for 1-5 minutes or so.
