Hello I'm 40+4 with my first baby and went in today for a CTG, midwife offered me an internal and stretch and sweep as I was having painless contractions/tightening of stomach. Sweep was very uncomfortable and wasn't dilated but midwifes glove was covered in a strange bloody discharge but it wasn't quite like how people describe mucus plug. There was also blood on the bed sheet. Now there is parts of dried blood coming out onto my liner, was alot of bleeding instantly after a sweep normal? Could it of been my plug coming away? Midwife didn't say what it was but that it's normal to bleed a little after but I'm quite a flappy person and panicking a little.

In order to do a sweep the midwife will have put her fingers into your cervix and disturbed the mucous plug so it's quite normal to have blood stained, mucous loss after this examination. If you start to just bleed fresh red blood with no mucous then you need to call or go to the hospital.
Hope you go into labour soon.
