Baby clothes

My mum has just found a load of mine and my brother's old baby clothes in the attic. Saying I can have them. Would anyone else do this or think it's odd?

Why not, if they're clean and in good condition? My DS1 wore some of his dad's old stuff as a baby, all of which was well made and some of which was handmade for my DH. Lovely sentimental value.

If they're musty or badly stained, no, but there's nothing particularly special about modern baby clothes, I assure you.

RexManning · 07/05/2018 17:18

Why would it be odd?

Thistles24 · 07/05/2018 17:29

My DS' wore some of my brother's old clothes, and had some beautiful blankets that had been handmade for them 25+ years ago. All we're in perfect condition, and looked no different from anything you can get in the shops these days. Some other bits, however, were just too 80s for my liking, so I didn't use them.

Thanks for the replies. I don't know really. I've just never heard of it before.
Here's just some of them.

I'm confused as to why you would think this is odd??

Whereland · 07/05/2018 18:07

I think it's really lovely, why is it odd?!

lostfrequencies · 07/05/2018 18:11

Also think it's lovely and not odd at all. Perhaps give them a wash as you would with any second hand (or even new) clothes, as they've been in storage for a while.

QueenAravisOfArchenland · 07/05/2018 18:12

Ha, I can see some adorable '80s pastel towelling in there!

Lots of grandparents have held onto baby bits in the hopes of passing them on. :)

surreygirl1987 · 07/05/2018 18:14

Just give them a good wash and it's all good. Wish someone would give me a heap of baby clothes! Definitely useful, definitely not odd!

CathyandHeathcliff · 07/05/2018 18:20

Thanks all, maybe odd was the wrong word.
I've told mum I'll have them 😊

Brill:)

lozengeoflove · 07/05/2018 18:39

My mum did the same and both my DC wore lovely 80s baby clothes.

I think it's lovely.

TheChineseChicken · 07/05/2018 19:07

There's a stripy cardigan in that pile that looks gorgeous Grin

TheChineseChicken · 07/05/2018 19:09

Just to add, take all the second hand clothes you can from friends and family. Buying things is fun at first but DD's wardrobe is almost entirely donated at the moment and it's saved us a fortune (plus she has lots of things I wouldn't have bought but are really nice). I get really exited when I get a new bagful!

Spam88 · 07/05/2018 19:15

Aw I think this is lovely!

MyBreadIsEggy · 07/05/2018 19:19

Aww I think it’s lovely!!
I loved having hand-knitted things for my babies when they were tiny - they are wonderful for light layers. Easy to remove if it’s warm or add a layer if it gets cold Smile I bought them from a my local WI group, but would have loved to have had some of my old baby things Smile

greendale17 · 07/05/2018 19:27

I think it is lovely too

OliveOrTwist · 07/05/2018 19:28

Kate and William have dressed George in Williams old clothes before. If its good enough for royals... Grin

Phase84 · 07/05/2018 19:30

Wow she kept them after all this time? That's lovely. So diifferent and unique.

RLOU88 · 07/05/2018 19:33

I think it’s lovley to have things like that passed down & save a shit load too.
My baby boys (due soon) wardrobe has been made up of Shpock bundles. As long as they are clean I’ve got some lovely expensive bits for next to nothing Grin

You're so lucky!
I've spent years searching ebay and charity shops to find vintage baby clothes!

Wash them to freshen them up and you're good to go!!!

BellyBean · 07/05/2018 20:25

I get it's unusual to save more than a couple of special outfits for that long, but delightful that she has.

IME the hand downs dry up after a year and the kids get moving and messy so enjoy then while you can.

BlueBug45 · 07/05/2018 20:28

@OliveOrTwist Apparently the new prince has been dressed in some of both his brother and sister's baby clothes for the royal photos they released. And Charlotte has been dressed in one of her uncle's shoes.

CathyandHeathcliff · 07/05/2018 20:58

Thank you all.
I'm not sure my mum and my dad knew they were still all up there! Mum only thought there were a few bits until she went to have a look!

She wants to keep a few things - a couple of my dresses and my brother's tiny baby premature outfits as he was born early.

I can have the rest!
