Maternity pay, tax rebate??

Going off on maternity leave soon and will end up on SMP quickly. Does anyone know if that means you are entitled to a tax rebate given that my earnings will be significantly lower?

You are likely to get a tax rebate but it will not be huge as there has only been one month so far in the tax year.

Yep I got tax back most months when on SMP.

It depends how much you've already worked in that tax year. When I was on maternity leave, I got a very small tax rebate in my pay. So plan for the normal SMP amount. Anything else is a nice bonus

Every little helps Smile

Fantastic news, did you have to apply for it?

It just gets added onto SMP. I think I had paid £200 in tax the first month of SMP, which then got added on in instalments on £50 for next four months!

I got mine back as a very welcome surprise cheque in the post. It was about £800 Shock. I had a second job which I think pushed it up though, it wasn't just from SMP iyswim.

Oh fab!! No matter how much it is it's a nice little bonus I wasn't expecting.

Glad we don't have to apply or anything

Last time I was on maternity, my company paid small amounts back to me per month :) So yes, you should get it back but not as one lump sum.

I'm just happy I'm getting anything back so however it comes it will be welcome
