Baby Registry

I’ve read a lot about how people dislike people having baby registry lists. Yes It is another American thing we seemed to have adopted in the UK, like having a prom, a baby shower, a baby sex reveal party etc.... however In many ways I can see the use for it. I remember having nearly 20 newborn romper suits and a lot of other duplicated items. At least this way the mum gets the things she needs. The don’t have to be exspensive item. I would never send out a list as that is like you’re demanding/exspecting you’ll get a gift which is so rude.
But if a mum is asked what she would like then at list she won’t get things that she doesn’t like nor need.

I thought this was the reason for gift receipts? And talking to people! Our family know we have enough neutral baby grows in up to 3months to see us by, however have free reign on any outfits they may wish to buy. My Aunty asked for something big we needed so we suggested she picked out a play mat/gym thing, allowing her the option to spend as much or little as she wished. Parents have come in and said we will come with you to buy pram/furniture or whatever and have contributed. I like the idea of talking to family instead of giving them a list. A list feels a little like a 5 year old at Christmas. But I think it is personal preference. If someone referred me to a list to buy a gift I wouldn’t be offended (although may not always stick to the list either!)

Doesn't always work even with a list! We started early with this baby as i saw lots of 2nd hand bargains (3rd baby); only thing we 'needed' was baby gros, sleepsuits etc. I still ended up with three playmats, two bouncers, two moses baskets & i have enough pram liners to start my own shop 😮

@mustbemad17 I don't even know what a pram liner is! (Ftm)
I think it's personal preference to be honest agree with the others that I wouldn't be offended to receive a list and I would much prefer to think I was getting something that was wanted/needed.
I have a few things in my head that if anyone asks me I will say but not planning on doing an actual list/registry.

It's basically just a cosy layer that fits into the pram that allows the straps to come through...think cosy toes without the top cover. My folks bought us a gorgeous sheepskin one that i have been after for ages...but then i have a pink one, two black ones, a green one & the blue one that came with my buggy. Not sure really what people are expecting this baby to do in his pram that he needs that many 😂

We had an Amazon wishlist for ourselves that DP and I added to when we thought of / saw things we'd like to buy. When people asked what we'd like we said they were welcome to go off the wish list, but made it clear that it was our own list of things we needed to buy, and just asked that if they bought a different version of something that was on there that they let us know so we didn't end up with duplicates.

In our experience, close family will buy things you need, everyone else will buy you clothes because they enjoy having an excuse to look at tiny cute outfits!

Thanks @mustbemad17 Smile
My aunt also told me that she received loads of clothes in newborn and 0-3 when her son was born, she took them back to the shops they came from, without the receipt, and they all let her swap them for a bigger size of the same thing.

That's a great idea if people leave the tags on. I will say i've been lucky in that the persistant buyers (yes gran & mil, looking at you two!) have at least now taken on board the fact we have enough 0-3 clothes to kit out an army 😂 altho given we live in a 2 bedroom flat i'm still not sure they fully appreciate the lack of storage space 🙈🙈

I like the 'different' gifts...the BC holders, or the different teething toys. We haven't had anything like that this time
