Nasal bone

Hi,

They didn't mention anything (good or bad) about a nasal bone at my dating scan so I am presuming everything is ok. But wondered if you can see one from this picture?

My children looked deformed in 3d scans and the regular scans.. to the untrained eyes its normal to seem strange but if there was something they would have told you surely? Unless youre in a religious no abortions allowed country or dont have confidence in the medical staff?

Looks like your lo has a cute little button nose. What I do know if that the white is the bone, I think they're just looking to see if it's present and your lo definitely has white in their nose area. I think if they are worried then they'd say something. I couldn't really see a nasal bone on my lo's scan photo but he was fine and everything came back low risk.

I don't think it's something they really use as a marker into the UK tbh. Not sure why. But I wouldn't worry about it if your screening test results are ok.

By which I mean it's common for them not to say anything. I was given a 1 in 5 risk of Down's and even at the detailed scan following that they didn't mention the nasal bone.

Thank you guys. You are all right....I think my anxiety is really getting out of control and that is more of a concern. I need to get some help as I am so convinced something will be wrong. Thank you xx

With my first child I was told that the absence of a nasal bone was a marker that they looked for.

My OH attended my scans and as it's his second child he knew some of the bits that they should be looking at.

At the dating scan, when OH mentioned nose measurements the sonographer simply mentioned they don't use nasal measurements anymore to check for Downs they measure fluid at the back of the neck as it's more accurate. At the anomaly scan the sonographer was just concerned with getting the lip measurements from the front.

Btw baby refused to get in right position at both appointments so had to do some wiggling and then walking. Anomaly one in addition I had to go eat some thing with sugar.

Checking for a nasal bone isn't a routine part of screening so may not be done everywhere but many sonographers do look and would note if it wasn't there.
