Anyone have anxiety or other mh problems whilst pregnant?

I have had ptsd but it's more manageable but does flair up now and again. Today and yesterday I've felt incredibly anxious about uni and got myself in quite a state about it and now I'm paranoid I've miscarried because I was so stressed and upset yesterday.

Anyone else felt like this?

Yes I have. But you can get through it.
My friend also had terrible anxiety throughout her pregnancies and she bled each month aswell, but find your own way to get through it, and you will.
Try to make sure you eat and drink properly and regularly, sounds lame but it helps massively xxx

Hi Mama,

It's more common than people think, and if you have pre existing ptsd it's not surprising that it could flare.

This charity are great and have a help line. They also have local groups and fb groups you can join. Or just chat here, mn can be really supportive.

If you feel you need more targeted support, chat to your gp as there's a team called the perinatal mh team who have short waiting lists due to being only for pregnancy and post baby. Or gp could arrange a bit of counselling. There's no worry about this as it's very normal and it's best to tackle it early on.

I had MH issues during pregnancy, and it’s the only bit of MH support which seems to be reasonably funded. There is lots of help available, speak to your gp or midwife. Please don’t put it off (I did and made a real mess for myself) x

To reassure you, stress doesn't cause mc, it might in severely war torn areas. Pregnancy does cause a range of hormonal fluctuations though and it can feel quite lonely too, so exacerbating any underlying anxieties. Some women become extremely low simply due to the hormonal effects of pregnancy.

Do chat to your gp or mw as they may be able to offer some additional input.

Thank you for all your replies. I feel very tearful today but I think it's likely to be hormones. I did get told about a team and explained about previous mh problems and so I may give them a call.

Hi there! Just thought I'd reply 😁 during my pregnancy I suddenly developed terrible anxieties and my ocd and intrusive thoughts were also put in to overdrive. They worsened significantly in the 4th month to the point where I was having panic attacks and ended up in therapy. I was also referred to a mental health team. I wished I'd reached out sooner! 2 weeks post c section and my brain has never felt fresher! Bloody hormones!

I have previously had chronic depression of varying severities for years which I had only really properly recovered from a few months before I fell pregnant, and I have an anxiety disorder. I had some problems with low mood in first trimester as I got HG and that was really, really difficult on me, but once I started to get recover from the HG my mood picked up again. However I have been really struggling with the anxiety to be honest especially the last few weeks now it has got closer to the time, I've become obsessed with giving birth and really anxious about it. I have my 34 week appointment in a few days so will be asking midwife to refer me to perinatal mental health team (I was asked at my booking appointment and my 16 week appointment and declined both times) and explaining to her how bad it has been. I am now looking into hypnobirthing the last few days and that is already helping my anxiety so may be worth a go too.
