Almost no weight gain at 17 wks, should I worry?

I'm 17 weeks today: in the first 12 weeks I only put on a pound , when I weighed myself last week it was 9 stone 8 so a four pound weight gain since then but this morning I'm 9 stone 7.

I'm a bit worried about what this might mean: I'm a normal weight for my height, and I've been consciously trying to eat more, esp the last few weeks where I've really tried to up my protein.

I've previously had a missed miscarriage; I had a mini scan last wk and all looked ok and it's four weeks till my 20 week scan. Could this be a sign something's wrong with the baby? Or am I just being paranoid?

You're being paranoid Smile

Absolutely nothing to worry about at this stage. I didn't start pulling on the pounds until my third trimester! As long as you're eating healthily, you're fine!

All the best Smile

I was of normal weight for my height when I got pregnant. I’m now 21 weeks and only have put 3lb on since the day I found out. Also between weeks 20 and 21 I lost 1lb. I’m sure the weight gain will come to both of us! Also I only really started to see a bump at 20 weeks, and even then it’s because I’m looking for it.

No need to worry at all - I lost 7lb in my first trimester and I was having twins. Believe me, I made up for it later!

SecretStash · 03/05/2018 08:50

I don’t gain any weigh until way past 20 weeks.

paranoid - Smile Smile

Seriously, don't worry. The weight will probably magically start piling on in due course Sad

And you don't need to eat more btw - just eat well and healthily.

I lost 18lbs in the first five months of pregnancy and have now finally gained it back at 26 weeks but am only one lb heavier than my pre pregnancy weight. Baby is fine. They just suck anything they need out of your body.

I lose weight in pregnancy (dont hate me!)

I'm currently 34 weeks with DC2 and the same weight I was at my booking appointment at 7 weeks.

Same happened with DC1 who was born on due date a nice healthy 7lb 2. I was a stone lighter the day after I gave birth than I was at my booking appointment.

I have a good appetite but find my portion sizes are much smaller because of heartburn and lack of space. I'm probably eating the same amount as pre pregnancy, but little and often over the day which must suit my metabolism better. That combined with not drinking lots of sugary wine at a weekend, and the baby taking its share too all combine into nice steady weightless for me over 9 months.

BrazzleDazzleDay · 03/05/2018 09:03

Ah lovely pop up fucked up, I too lost roughly half a stone in each pregnancy.

Shitmother1 · 03/05/2018 09:04

At 40 weeks I was only 6lb up from my normal weight, (not overweight to start with), my son came out 8lb 3oz and healthy! Try not to worry

Juells · 03/05/2018 09:08

When I was pregnant with my first child I was under a lot of stress and lost weight steadily throughout the pregnancy :( The baby came out fit and healthy though, it wuz just me wot shrunk 😂

SnowOnTheSeine · 03/05/2018 09:09

Weight gain is very odd and individual.

With DS1 I gained 1 kg in the first 12 weeks, 10 kg in the second 12 weeks (getting a warning from the Dr) and 0 kg in the last trimester. My bump didn't even get bigger in the last 10 weeks but DS came out small but healthy (48cm, 3.1 kg). He is now a strapping 6 year old.

SnowOnTheSeine · 03/05/2018 09:10

Oh and in a very nice way, you notice these things much more with your first. I could not tell you how much I gained and when with DS2's pregnancy... too busy being sick and running after a toddler Grin

strawberrysparkle · 03/05/2018 09:11

I was a normal weight until 20-25 weeks then put on 4 stone! I wouldn't worry baby is still tiny at 17 weeks!

saison4 · 03/05/2018 13:57

I lost 1 stone in the first 20 weeks (I was sick though) and have birth to an almost 9lbs baby in the end. At 17 weeks, the baby is tiny and won't really add any weight to yours. I would not worry at all and rather be happy that you are able to maintain a healthy weight so easily.

twistedpink · 03/05/2018 15:26

I'm 33 weeks with my first and am 1 pound lighter than my pre pregnancy weight xx

reddressblueshoes · 04/05/2018 18:35

Ok thank you, I will just chalk it up to paranoia.

I thought I'd hit a point where I stopped feeling anxious, I figured after 12 weeks I'd relax but t hasn't happened. I'm now pinning my hopes on feeling reassured once I can feel the baby kicking but I'll probably just obsess about reduced movements!

I'm glad to hear I'm not alone in not putting on much weight yet though.

I was exactly the same don't worry! I didn't get movements that were noticeable until about 24 weeks. Pregnancy is just one giant rollercoaster of paranoia and emotions! Haha

SnowOnTheSeine · 04/05/2018 20:02

Yup the worry won't go ever until you've given birth Wink

tappitytaptap · 04/05/2018 21:44

I'm the opposite and at 18 weeks have a noticable bump and have put on 10lbs! I wish I was like you Grin. I have been pretty nauseous so eating loads of rubbish though.

tappitytaptap · 04/05/2018 21:45

Oh and I put on 2.5 stone in my last pregnancy, big bump and baby had IUGR and was born on the 1st centile! Not sure it correlates with baby size.
