Best place to buy 75 mg Aspirin?

Antonia79 · 03/05/2018 07:46

Morning all,

I’ve been advised by the doctor to take 150 mg of aspirin a day until baby is born (EDD 7th Oct!) He has given me enough for two weeks but I obviously need to buy more.

Any advice on the best way to source more aspirin cheaply please? Over the internet or pharmacy or supermarket?

Thanks,
Ant

Hello, could you just take half of a standard aspirin?

SlimGin · 03/05/2018 07:49

Hi Ant,

I'm currently taking 75mg aspirin, I get it from the chemist. Most recently the pharmacy counter in sainsbury's. Pretty cheap!

pastabest · 03/05/2018 07:52

If the doctor has told you to take it did he not give you a prescription for it that you can use under your maternity exemption?

It's baby aspirin that you need, you can get it at pharmacies but they often won't give it to pregnant women without agreement from a GP/consultant because generally it isn't advised in pregnancy.

TinyTerror1 · 03/05/2018 07:53

Chemist told me I needed a prescription too.

Rubberduckies · 03/05/2018 08:00

I just picked it up from the pharmacy desk in boots. Couple of quid for a little pot of them

Polly99 · 03/05/2018 08:03

It’s very cheap in Boots.

Presumably you are not yet visibly pregnant so they shouldn’t withhold it.

Liz3891 · 03/05/2018 08:04

I got it from the medicines counter at Boots too. They asked if I'd consulted a doctor on its use and I said yes (honestly). That was it.

Just be careful not to get the dissolveable ones and then swallow them whole like I did. Nasty surprise!

Bluebirdsky · 03/05/2018 08:07

I take 75mg once a day and I buy mine in Savers, Wilko, Boots wherever I am really. It's not expensive.

Kpo58 · 03/05/2018 08:10

Has the doctor not made it as a repeat prescription?

Colonelpopcorn · 03/05/2018 08:12

Poundland do boxes of 75mg.

Namechange128 · 03/05/2018 08:14

You can get a prescription - or if that's tricky to do, get it now as once you're visibly pregnant they won't sell it to you without a prescription anyway!

zaalitje · 03/05/2018 08:24

Just ask your pharmacist.
It costs pennies, if you insist on getting it on prescription the NHS will be charged about £10 not the 50p or so it costs.

Antonia79 · 03/05/2018 08:27

Thanks everyone!

I didn’t get a repeat prescription but I heard they are very cheap if you get them yourself, which I’m happy to do.

There’s a Boots near me so I’ll pop over at the weekend and get some.

Thanks again for all your replies, it is very much appreciated!

I get mine from Tesco, in a yellow box.

LisaSimpsonsbff · 03/05/2018 09:02

No one ever offered me a prescription (despite saying I needed to take it from BFP to 36 weeks) so I've just been buying it over the counter. My local boots made a big fuss about it so I haven't gone back there, but all my local supermarkets sell it on the shelf and no one's said anything about it as it goes through the till - and I'm 29 weeks now, so obviously pregnant!

eurochick · 03/05/2018 09:09

I bought it in Boots. I got grief once I started showing as I didn't have a prescription so my husband picked it up for me after that. I was taking it on consultant advice.

FranticallyPeaceful · 03/05/2018 09:18

Tesco, Asda, pharmacy? Lots of places sell it!

Ekphrasis · 03/05/2018 09:22

Boots, off the shelf, don't pay for it at the pharmacy counter - they freak out and get into a huddle.

Just go to the normal counter where they just put it through like a small pack of paracetamol.

I get the 'gastric safe' ones.

Ekphrasis · 03/05/2018 09:23

Also my consultant said the evidence is that it's better taken at night just before bed (I take with some yoghurt or a biscuit).

Your doctor is a prat. He should have put it on repeat prescription for you until your due date only because pharmacists - Boots being the most obvious one - refuse to allow you to buy it once you start showing.

My consultant openly stated to me that I could buy it over the counter but there would be an issue once I started showing. So doctors know it is difficult for you to obtain it once you start showing.

guiltynetter · 03/05/2018 14:37

my midwife told me i could get a repeat prescription for it from the GP but so far i’ve not bothered - i bought 2 boxes of 100 (i think! there’s loads in anyway) for £1.50 for my local pharmacy and that’ll last me ages.
