When did you feel movement with first pregnancy?

Hi there, I was just wondering when peeps registered movement in their first baby. I’m 16 weeks now and feel flipping sensations occasionally. I’ve had so many losses that I’m getting a bit worried that all is not ok as it’s such a long gal between the 12 and 20 week scan.

24 weeks but I have an anterior placenta (at the front) so took a long time! I've known people feel movement anywhere from 16 - 26 weeks, so you could may well be feeling baby Smile

snotato · 02/05/2018 21:23

I felt the first flutters of my two pregnancies around the 20 week scan. The first pregnancy I think it was a few days after my 20 week scan, with the second I think it was a couple of days before my 20 week scan.

Nichola2310 · 02/05/2018 21:25

Around 20 weeks I started to think I was feeling something, and by 21 weeks feeling movements every day. But as previous poster has said the amount of movement you can feel also depends on where your placenta is.

lifechangesforever · 02/05/2018 21:30

Not till about 23/24 weeks. I have an anterior placenta. Midwives state that anything up to 27 weeks is normal to be waiting. I'm 29 weeks today and she barely ever stops - it's lovely but makes sleep and concentrating at work a tad difficult!

It is a long time but try not to worry, your 20 week scan will be here before you know it.

laelti · 02/05/2018 22:08

17 weeks, though it wasn't with a lot of great certainty! But I kept feeling the same thing getting stronger until it was quite obvious. It was commented at my 20 week scan that he was very wriggly.
I do remember at my 16 week midwife appointment being told it might not be for quite a while yet though.

Havetothink · 02/05/2018 23:00

22 weeks with first (anterior placenta), 14 weeks with second, was very surprised it was so early but sonographer said it was entirely possible as it was so close to the skin (posterior placenta). The second has been more unnerving as the early movements just aren't as regular as they were when I was at 22 weeks with my first, baby is still small enough to move or hide away.

aetw · 03/05/2018 06:32

Ok, so not until quite late for most of you then. I was starting to get worried.

At least 21 weeks. I remember not having felt them by the 20 week scan and it being possibly a couple of weeks after.

I couldn't identify what it was at the time. I was really freaked out with the kind of tapping that I could feel sort of on top on my bladder and thought I must be unwell. Completely forgot that at some point the baby would start kicking!

BloominMoomin89 · 03/05/2018 07:07

I was terrified as i didnt feel my son until i was 21 weeks plus 6 i think. I was driving to the 20 week scan and he started kicking, was in happy tears as i assumed being so late it wasnt going to happen at all!

Honey456 · 03/05/2018 07:17

For me it was probably around 20 weeks that I properly felt something. Then after that she didn’t stop. 32 weeks now and she never stops moving. :)

feelinggoodinspring · 03/05/2018 08:40

About 20 weeks

Thetimehascometo · 03/05/2018 08:43

25 weeks 🙈 but now at 31 weeks baby doesn’t stop wriggling

Diorissimo1985 · 03/05/2018 08:45

Around 22-23 weeks but I had an anterior placenta and it was very faint. Proper big movements wasn't until much later, 27-28 weeks ish

Bumblealong1 · 03/05/2018 08:46

Over 27 weeks for me! And I am relatively slim, relatively short, but with an anterior placenta.
I had a scan at 28 weeks as my bump is small, and I was concerned about the lack of movement. But baby is there, all healthy.
I could see the baby moving lots on the scan but couldn’t feel 95% of it.

I know it’s hard not to worry.
I paid £50 for a private scan twice now, when the weeks seemed to be lagging. Obviously not everyone can afford it, but if you can and you are really struggling then perhaps it’s an option. However, as mums-to-be we are facing a lifetime of worrying so if you can find a way to control any anxiety then that would be best.. and good training for the continual things we will face (are they meeting their milestones, are they growing right? Etc etc etc!)
Good luck.

Bojangles33 · 03/05/2018 08:47

I felt little movements at about 17 weeks, they felt like an involuntary muscle twitch that got stronger. Fingers crossed for
you and sorry for your losses xx

BrutusMcDogface · 03/05/2018 08:47

With my first- 17 weeks- little "bubble popping" sensations Smile

mindutopia · 03/05/2018 08:50

13/14 weeks with first but that’s unusually early. To me the first movements felt like vibrations, so it’s possible you are feeling them but not even realising.

Yarnswift · 03/05/2018 08:51

23-24 with the first
15 with this one
Anterior placenta both times

BlueBug45 · 03/05/2018 12:57

14 weeks. I expected to feel them later. On both scans the baby wouldn't stop moving until it was in an awkward position for scanning.
Posterior placenta.

mumofmunchkin · 03/05/2018 13:03

With my first, it was 19 weeks. I suspect I had been feeling things before that but hadn't really realised it was kicks (people kept telling me it would feel like butterflies, it didn't, it felt like little kicks, or bubbles!).

With my second, when I knew what I was feeling, it was about 14 weeks.

Charlottejade89 · 03/05/2018 13:36

16 weeks for me, possibly earlier but didn't realise what it was lol. 27 weeks now and she doesn't stop and some of the locks in the evening are super strong and abit uncomfortable

Grumpos · 03/05/2018 14:31

17 weeks for “bubbles/popping” and 18/19 for actual movement which could also be felt from outside by putting hands on tummy. 20weeks to start seeing belly moving ever so slightly. 23 weeks now and no real pattern yet

surreygirl1987 · 03/05/2018 19:07

Felt what I think were actual little kicks for the first time yesterday (18+3). At around 17+4 I felt what I think was some movement. People said it would be like flutters but for me it felt similar to my tummy rumbling (but also different). I think I'd been feeling that for maybe a week already without realising what it was. Still not positive I'm feeling movement/kicks as it's my first, but there's definitely SOMETHING going on in there!

Hazyhayz · 04/05/2018 00:18

I was 16 weeks too, felt flipping and tumbling motions and hes a proper kicker now im 31 weeks.
