One or two small drinks while pregnant on holiday?

Hi everyone!
My partner and I have just booked a gorgeous holiday away, which may be our last for a little while!! At the time we go I will be 14-15 weeks pregnant....
Is it ok to have a small white wine spritzer or glass of sangria while away? (Please don't judge!) BlushWine
Thanks!! Xx

I would. Have a great time!

Dancingleopard · 02/05/2018 14:37

I didn’t see the point when I was pregnant as I mostly drink to get pissed Grin

I did like a non alcoholic beer though while it was hot and at BBQ/holidays

Roaring20s · 02/05/2018 14:38

Sure but if you didn’t want anyone to judge you should have kept it to yourself.

Mybabystolemysanity · 02/05/2018 14:38

I did. White wine and soda or a shandy. Never more than one. Haven't wanted it so much through this second pregnancy. Can recommend Robinson's lime and mint cordial in soda water as an alternative to mojitos too. It's very nice!

Midthreademergencynamechange · 02/05/2018 14:39

Of course it is absolutely fine!

Unfortunately you will now get a thousand judgemental posts telling you not to be so selfish.

Rainshowers · 02/05/2018 14:40

I would. I had a wedding abroad at 13 weeks and had a little glass of prosecco to toast. As I got further into pregnancy I had the occasional small glass of wine (generally with food) or fizz.

People will reply saying no way, others will respond saying they did...ultimately it’s up to you to do what you feel comfortable with.

MissBax · 02/05/2018 14:40

I'm sure it'll be fine, but I didn't see the point when I was pregnant, as I can't just have one.

DustyMaiden · 02/05/2018 14:43

It might be, probably will, is that good enough for you?

For me it isn’t.

Namechangedandfedup · 02/05/2018 14:45

It might be, probably will, is that good enough for you?

Exactly this.

Chances are it'll be fine, but as you probably know, there's always a risk. Is that good enough for you?

TroubledLichen · 02/05/2018 14:46

I would, as long as it’s genuinely one or two weak drinks over the entire holiday (and not one or two a day). Have a great trip and make the most of it Grin

Brownhillsmom · 02/05/2018 14:53

It's completely your decision it's your body, lots of women do it's just what you feel comfortable with. I have to agree about the lime and mint cordial though, it's like drinking an actual mojito!! Xx

YouCantCallMeBetty · 02/05/2018 14:58

Exactly as Dusty said, probably will be fine, if it isn't though would you want to have based your decision on advice from a load of internet strangers (guessing yes otherwise you wouldn't have posted Wink)? You've got to figure out for yourself whether you want to take the risk I think.
We went on holiday when I was about 26 weeks, I had a beer every few days and made sure I drank lots of water as it was v hot as well. We were in a big hotel on a Spanish island and I didn't notice any judgy looks.

Cosmoa · 02/05/2018 16:29

Go for it!

usernotfound0000 · 02/05/2018 16:29

You will undoubtedly get mixed replies here. I'm on the side of a small amount will probably be fine, and I'll be going away later in my pregnancy and will be having a few shandies over the course of the week. I wouldn't feel comfortable drinking on a regular basis, in my first pregnancy I think I had 3 or maybe 4 over the course of my whole pregnancy.

Kannet · 02/05/2018 16:54

I wouldn't and didn't. No alcoholic beer is nice and maybe some fruit cocktails

Fatted · 02/05/2018 16:59

I got blind steaming drunk the night before I got my BFP with my eldest. I wouldn't have drunk if I'd known, but we all lived to tell the tale. I didn't drink the rest of the pregnancy.

With my youngest, I think I had glass of wine at a wedding and a glass of wine at Christmas.

I don't think I'd bother on holiday frankly. It's just easier for me not to have any now rather than just having the one.

Ninjamilo · 02/05/2018 17:07

Have a read of Expecting Better if you want to reassure yourself.

I've had the odd glass of wine through pregnancy

Topics like this tend to bring out the judgmental patronising comments though, so I hope you have your rhino skin on!

Blaablaablaa · 02/05/2018 17:12

You will be absolutely fine -i went away when I was 10 weeks ( it was actually our honeymoon) and I asked my midwife she told me it would be absolutely fine and not to worry .

You won't get that advice on here though

Grumpos · 02/05/2018 17:56

Imon holiday with friends now at 23 wks and the other evening I had a very very weak rosè wine spritzer ( poured myself so when I say weak I mean about an inch of wine in a glass topped with lemonade)... although it did intially taste lovely I actually got half way through and thought “I’d rather not drink this”....I just realised that I don’t want to do anything which could harm the baby. Not saying it would, but as soon as I had the ‘thought’ of it possibly doing so, I swapped to a soft drink.
Might invest in some alcohol free wine for the apartment for my holiday next month with partner!

coastalchick · 02/05/2018 18:18

I’m not but it’s personal choice as I had a MC last time round. Know it was nothing to do with alcohol (as I didn’t drink) but just don’t want to take the risk.

That said, he’s due 4 days before my 40th. I’ve said if he’s not arrived by then I’m having a very cold glass of champagne! He’ll be fully cooked by then though!

LockedOutOfMN · 02/05/2018 18:42

Yes, it's fine OP. Enjoy your holiday.

Goingovertosusanshouse · 02/05/2018 18:44

Echoing others. Your choice. I wouldn’t.

Littleredboat · 02/05/2018 18:51

I did in both my pregnancies, but I’ve read loads of stuff on the effect of alcohol on foetuses lately and I don’t think I would next time around.

SophieE1987 · 02/05/2018 18:52

I had my early pregnancy clinic on Monday with the midwife - the current guidelines are 1-2 units (not drinks) once or twice a week AFTER 14 weeks - they suggest you should avoid any before that - I barely drink anyway, but was surprised as I always thought the advice was to completely avoid, but obviously research and knowledge evolves and changes over time

pinkhorse · 02/05/2018 18:54

It's fine! Enjoy!
