Am I in labour?

Hi. I am 40 weeks pregnant today and I am having period type pains that come and go every 15-20 minutes. I'm not entirely sure if this means early labour as I don't feel it in my back, but the pain is increasing gradually. My bump is still fairly high, but the midwife said I am engaged at my last antenatal appointment. Thanks x

Sounds like very early labour to me, this is how it started with my first. You may lose your waters shortly, that's when the contractions will ramp up. Good luck! How exciting!

Sounds like it’s probably the latent phase of labour, yes. Just be warned, some women with have latent phase symptoms for days or even weeks before they are in established labour. You don’t need to call the maternity unit unless you are getting contractions 3-4 in 10 minutes lasting 40 seconds of longer, you have reduced fetal movements, your waters break or you aren’t coping with the pain. Rest up, relax and hopefully things will develop!

Yes could be the start. Sometimes this stage can be on and off for days though. Hopefully it'll get going properly soon though. Rest if you can!
