Has anyone been to the prenatal classes? Are they worth it ?

Which one are you thinking of? As far as I'm aware there's 3:
NCT
NHS
Hypnobirthing

I did hypnobirthing and highly recommend it for breathing & calming techniques as well as making friends. I also attended #3 of 3 of the nhs ones (I couldn't make the first 2 sessions). It was ok- informative but a bit dull. I could have survived without it.

We're doing NCT because everyone we know who did it recommended it (we were slightly surprised by the cost of it but maybe that's just us!)

We're signed up to NCT as they had good comments. The cost is quite high though (almost £300 for 18.5 hrs course) but as a first timer i felt we needed more detailed one, hubby especially :)

There's also the option of private antenatal classes that are not just about hypnobirthing. We did NCT and hypnobirthing. NCT was great to meet people, however the content was a bit rose tinted. The hypnobirthing certainly helped

We did NCT but the quality varies depending on the teacher, and some do have a pro-natural birth agenda. It is worth asking around people who have done the courses locally. Our teacher was a trainee midwife and was absolutely brilliant; she was informed and knowledgeable, and spent plenty of time on interventions, pain relief, and caesareans alongside the physiological process of vaginal birth.

I'm booked into an NCT course in Shoreditch at the end of June/July. I was thinking of doing hypnobirthing but I think this might be better for my husband and I.

Hopefully it's not a waste of time. And hopefully we meet some other lovely people going through this journey.

We couldn't afford NCT or hypnobirthing so just went for the three free NHS ones. Thought they were well worth going to first two weeks in labour and birth and the last one on the first week with baby, feeding and safe sleeping ect.

We did NCT. I didn’t get much from the course itself (I had birth phobia and had to keep leaving the classes! Hmm) but I have five wonderful friends who I’d never have met without it. We propped each other up during the newborn phase and now 4 of us are expecting DC2 at the same time as well Grin
