28+2 Braxton Hicks?

Desperate for some advice or previous experiences. For the past 48 hours I’ve been experiencing what feels to me like the start of labour pains, cramps across my bump, back pain, worse at night and when lying down. They’ve came and went with severity. I phoned hosp and was asked to come to maternity assessment last night, after hours upon hours of waiting the doctor came in when pains had died down and had a quick feel and basically said she didn’t know what it could be and would make a guess on possible urine infection although she didn’t think that’s what it was but gave me antibiotics and I was just glad to get home. Of course typically pains came bk. I obviously had to call in sick at work much to my bosses disgust. The pains were so bad I called and made an appt with my gp, she examined me and said she wasn’t happy with me at all and sent me straight bk to hospital. There I was put on monitor for baby’s heart rate (all good) and she has been moving lots so I don’t feel there is anything wrong with baby thankfully as that’s my main concern but the pain is excruciating at times! Doctor said he is now thinking possibly Braxton Hicks but I’m reading these are usually not painful?? These are very painful and feel like I did at beginning of labour with my ds! It’s starting to make me wonder how I’ll cope with real thing if this is just Braxton Hicks! He’s took bloods and I’ve to get a scan and see a specialist tomorrow! I’m only 28+2 and I hope this isn’t me for rest of pregnancy! I feel like a complete wuss! Has anyone had anything similar? Does it sound like anyone else’s experiences with Braxton Hicks or any idea what else it may be? T.I.A

I had similar a few times but after 33 weeks. The pains were so bad at times I’d have to stop and breathe through them! Then they’d go when I’d have a bath. Very odd and didn’t have it in my first pregnancy. I can only assume very painful Braxton Hicks.

Odd for BH to be painful ... if you do get concerned baby moving or not take yourself back to the hospital just to continue to rule out possible early labour which they can stop x

Thank you
You’d think they’d mention/check early labour just to rule it out. Im back tomorrow for blood results, a scan and to see a specialist so I’ll maybe get a better picture tomorrow! Was just thinking hoping it couldn’t be early labour at this stage! X

Early labour is anywhere from 24weeks luckily they have injections that can prevent labour even if you had started and worse case senario the technology we have on the NHS is great for premie baby's especially as you are 28weeks x x

Hopefully get more answers tomorrow! I just don’t feel it’s normal to be feeling like this at all and I don’t know what it could be x

Thank you, basically they have said it is severe Braxton Hicks and nothing they can do! I’m just hoping it relieves because I can’t do this for another 12 weeks! I hadn’t realised they could feel this bad but at least I know baby is well x

User1405 · 27/04/2018 17:46

Pickledgerkingsareathing this is true, for some reason I’ve always said I thought she’ll come early but just not this early lol! As long as she holds on for another good wee while yet xx
Thanks for the replies xx

I was surprised Braxton Hicks could be so strong too. Especially as everyone said to me they didn’t hurt...they did! Glad it is that though.

I read that being dehydrated can cause similar to what you are experiencing - really strong Braxton hix feeling like labour pains! Something to do with dehydration causing your uterus to contract. May be worth a read to see if it relates to what you are experiencing. Hope it gets better tho xx

User1405 · 28/04/2018 10:43

Thank you, I read that too so I’ve had a water bottle permently attached to me lol! The Braxton Hicks have stopped but I’ve just been left with uncomfortable dull pains in my back and abdomen! Constantly feeling sick and now have diarrhoea!

I'm having similar symptoms. I lost my appetite over a week ago and started having diarrhoea. I had a kidney function test that showed I was dehydrated even tho I drink loads. Test was repeated along with a bile acid test and it came back I'm developing Obstetric Cholestasis. I don't know if my symptoms are associated with that, I don't know much about it until I go to hospital for more tests next week. But I have really dark urine too. My back ache I've just put down to SPD which I have too. I actually can't wait to have my little girl cause thus has been the most stressful pregnancy lol. Aww I'm glad your painful Braxton hix has dulled down, it's awful when you're in so much pain and you don't know why!! xx
