Hi everybody I'm new to this

Il get right into it

I'm just really worried as I'm 5 months pregnant but today was taking to a friend who mentioned women should start taking folic acid a month before conceiving,

I googled it and that's true but even though we was trying for a baby I didt know this

I feel so bad now because I found out at 8/9 weeks I'm pregnant and the same day I went out and brought some pregnacare

But I'm so scared and worried now for not taking them earlier in my pregnancy

I wish I knew this

Do u think it matters that I started taking them from 8/9 weeks?

Thanks in advance xx

Well, nothing you can do about it now so why even think about it?
Baby will be fine.

BlueBug45 · 26/04/2018 19:54

Stop worrying.

There is nothing you can do, and unless you had a really poor diet or medical condition where you were told to take it but didn't then you are very likely to be fine.

Also you are aware that the foetus takes vitamin and minerals from you at the expense of your own health?

Just wanted to know if anybody else has taken them later on in pregnancy, and if there's anything to worry about my Midwife's are not really helpful and my next appointment isn't till next month, but because my friend mentioned this it's been on my mind

I'm a bit surprised you didn't know tbh, not having a go but it is surprising.

It is highly likely everything will fine, have you had your anomaly scan to check?

Colonelpopcorn · 26/04/2018 20:09

I barely took them during this pregnancy (did in my first which ended in mc)
My baby is fine.
Don’t worry. Smile

I feel so bad that I didt know about this

I knew that you should take pregnecare or some pregnancy vitamins when pregnant but didt really take notice of the tablets for women who are trying to conceive (which has folic acid in)

I now take them religiously

Thanks on my scan was told everything's fine

But today my friend was shocked when I told her I only started taking them from 8/9 so thought il ask others

Most people get enough folic acid in their normal diet if they have a reasonably healthy diet.

The time you really need folic acid for has now passed but you will almost certainly be fine.

I missed taking folic acid in early pregnancy due to other health emergencies and my midwife, doctor and consultant have all told me not to worry. Baby seems fine on scans too, looks like the neural tube shut ok, which is what you need the folic acid for.

Take supplements with vit d from now on.

dementedpixie · 26/04/2018 20:17

Folic acid is most important in the first few months and can be stopped after 12 weeks. Starting at 9 weeks is a bit late. Vitamin D and folic acid are the vitamins recommended during pregnancy

People do like making unhelpful comments about pregnancy, learn to nod, smile and ignore.
