(see earlier thread re measuring 39 weeks at only 29 weeks - have hosp appt this thursday to investigate)

have read about polyhydramnios (excessive amniotic fluid) and have scared myself - is often related to fetal abnormalities

this is where too much information can be a dangerous thing - knew i should have stayed away from google

tutter.....you had a 20 weeks scan..the anomaly scan...so i would have thought that any possible issues relating to this condition would have been visible then.....

fwiw , i don;t think the hospital would have let you go a week waiting for a scan,if there was serious concern?

can you get a private scan if you cannot bear to wait until thursday?

don;t google, tis a terror for scaring you when you are already worried

i had polyhdramnios with DD.

she is absolutly fine. they may want you to test for gestational diabetes too as that can cause babies to be very large.

don't worry yourself and dont go hunting on the net.
speak to your MW and get her to make an appointment so that you can talk with your Dr. hopefully he can put your mind at ease.

googling health stuff is fuel to paranoia.

My specailist told me not to look health stuff up on the internet!

Tutter · 14/05/2007 13:28

mamazon, did you go to term with your dd?

i have had bloods drawn today to test for gest diabetes - results will be available when i see the specialist on thurs

step away from the google....

seriously though, please don't get worried, the scan will tell you more.like lulu said, if it was emergency they would have had you in straight away.

Hope all goes well for you

Tutter I had similar huge bump and investigation. It was nothing - I just had a huge bump and large baby and also I think their measurements were a bit out. Try not to worry as it might not be anything, really (and even if there is a reason it might be something minor and easily fixed). After all the test I had done the MW looked at me and said - "well I can tell you the results - you are having a big fat heifer of a baby" Stay away from Google, relax, soon you will have some more info that relates to you and that will help. Good luck on Thurs.

i was just humongous with ds2. told couldnt have home birth, baby was a whale, brace yourself now kind of thing. measured term from about 28 weeks. ds is sat snoozing next to me and was 8llbs summat very easy popped out with no stitches gas and air. quite a lot of fluid, i was a bit chubby, no other explanation. measurements are rubbish and wrong imo.

lemonaid · 14/05/2007 13:37

It is sometimes related to foetal abnormalities. Sometimes, sometimes, sometimes. Not often. It is far more common for you to have polyhydramnios because you just do, for no particular reason.

There could be a problem, of course, but the chances are high that there isn't and any of the serious things would probably have shown up on the 20 week scan.

I had polyhaydramnios with DS (not massive polyhydramnios, admittedly) and there was no problem at all with him. And he was a big baby on top of the polyhydramnios so they tested for gestational diabetes but that was negative as well. If you do turn out to have GD then it can be relatively easily controlled.

i was quite lucky as i had a mild case (or so im told, it was pretty severe from where i was standing..i looked 6 monthd pregant by t hetime i was 3 months)

so they just kept an eye on me. they did put a drain in when i was 7 months and removed some fluid as they were concerned that she could drown or be squashed by teh fluid.

i carried to full term and in fact was overdue by 6 days.

She is now a very healthy happy 2.8

Tutter · 14/05/2007 13:37

thanks for reassurances

would be odd if the baby turned out particularly huge as he came up normal-ish sized at all earlier scans

just impatient to know

there is a private scanning place down the road but i will try to hang on
