Early pregnancy brown spotting

Hello, I am just 6w pregnant and have been having brown spotting on and off for the last week.

I have been seen and reassured that everything is OK but I am still worried sick that I will miscarry. I have a couple of days with "normal" discharge and then it goes brown again and the anxiety comes back.

Does anyone have any positive stories or reassurance about this? Sad

I had this for around 3 weeks it was varying between pink and red was back and forth to the epu had pelvic exam and 2 early scans heartbeat saw both times baby was fine from what they could see. I had an infection so went on antibiotics and touch wood haven't had any spotting since. It may be implantation bleeding as it can happen still at 6 weeks x

Same here. I had spotting since 5w4. Red then pink on wiping then brown then nothingfor a couple of days and then a drop of red again!
The waiting is agonising . You are not alone x 6w4 now
🤞🏼 For all of us

Thanks LMJ and Decemeberbaby (we must have nearly the same due date!)

I just don't understand why its happening, if there was a reason for it I think I would feel better but it's just so random. I was really hoping I would be able to relax and enjoy this pregnancy but my body has other plans AngrySad

I'm the same I was really looking forward to enjoying it this time round last time was a bit hectic as I was so young but it seems like everything's going wrong this time I've never been as worried just constantly over thinking everything. 2 week today till my 12 week scan and I'm so nervous but hopefully that will bring abit of peace. Hope it all goes well for us all Smile

I spotted a lot during the first 8/9weeks. I had two early scans which showed baby was fine but it's hard to shift that worry. Im now 14w and haven't spotted since so there is hope that things can be just fine. If it is heavy and accompanied by pain then please ring your epu x

After a first pregnancy with DD1 where I never had so much as a speck of blood from the day of my last period and going into labour, my pregnancy with DD2 was plagued with bleeding. Bright red blood in the days after my BFP and then weeks of brown spotting from 5weeks onwards. Went to the EPU (you can self refer here, it’s worth ringing to see whether you can too) and I was very lucky to see a heartbeat at just 5weeks and 3days but still the bleeding persisted. It went from brown and scant to red and very heavy. I had lots of trips to the EPU and they never found an explaination for it- not a hematoma or anything logical. I continued to bleed through to 25 weeks (which was a right pain as I’m OHNeg so had to have the Anti D about a gazillion times) when it just stopped.

DD2 was born totally fine after the rest of the pregnancy was uneventful. I aged about 20 years in those first 25weeks though, totally nerve wracking.

Mid to dark brown spotting for about a week v early on, was terrified due to previous MCs. Had 2 early scans as it had gone reddish brown and on the second scan saw the heart beating! There wasn't a cause for it, although the midwife guessed it was due to implantation. I was also about a week and a half earlier on than I thought! It stopped after a week and currently 31 weeks. Best of luck and congratulations! Smile

Try not to worry hun, I had brown spotting for about 2 weeks and turned out to be fine, midwife said it was old implantation blood that came out late x @Fififiesta

It's just impossible to know what is going on - have you asked for a scan that might be reassuring? With dd1 I spotted from 5 to 11 weeks and dd2 it was 6 to 10. I guess it's just what happens in my case? No cause was ever found. But it's so horrid at the time. I've never had a miscarriage btw and they are now 9 and 6.

Teateaandmoretea · 25/04/2018 19:18

Oh sorry I had some more with dd2 at 25 weeks Shock

Fififiesta · 25/04/2018 20:01

Thankfully no more spotting today really (minimally first thing this morning) but now have cramps. I'm just so worried Sad

To some extent cramps are normal. Have you been for a scan?

mascaraisamust · 25/04/2018 20:25

Yes, at least once or twice a week in between 6-11 weeks. Last scan at 9 weeks showed all was fine and no explanation for the spotting. Hope all is well OP. I have my we week scan next week so hoping all is fine but midwife and doctors not concerned at all! Unless it becomes heavy or crampy.

Fififiesta · 25/04/2018 20:28

Yes I had a scan but it was very early, they said everything was as it should be though but I am just not reassured and so scared that it will all end horribly. Another 6 weeks of this seems horrendous I might see if I can get a private scan too. DH is incredibly supportive but has suggested that its pointless because it wont change the outcome. I can't decide if I'm being overly dramatic.

The cramps are worrying me too.

I don't think it's pointless at all, I found scans helpful at least to some extent as at least toy know it's progressing ok. It is scary I agree, it was a horrible stressful time. I remember dreading going to the toilet and anyone else you told would be Shock which isn't that helpful. My boss with dd2 said 'are you sure you're pregnant' Hmm

Cramping as long as they are not massively painful are a good sign though, they are your womb stretching If you could feel nothing that would also be worrying.

Teateaandmoretea · 25/04/2018 20:58

I think for me the way that scans were helpful is that once I was about 8 weeks and all looked fine I told myself I was statistically less likely to miscarry than someone who had had no bleeding but no scan. I also got into the mindset in the end of 'if I'm going to miscarry I would have by now'. I was also calmer with dd2 as in a way it seemed normal

It's a few years ago for me so I am struggling to remember which is why the 'instalments'.

But you won't necessarily have another 6 weeks of it, that was just my rather extreme case.

mascaraisamust · 25/04/2018 21:14

Try get another scan OP to put your mind at ease. I had one at 8 weeks and then exactly a week later at 9 weeks as it has started again. Now at 11 weeks it comes and goes and with only a week to go until my scan I feel I can wait it out. It’s awful pondering on the worst when it takes 5 mins to check all is well.
