Help me with your Sleeping Advice

Hi Ladies, I'm currently 14 weeks pregnant and looking for some advice I hope you can help with.

I am really struggling with trying to train myself to sleep on my left (or right!!) side. I usually sleep on my back and I've been trying to get used to sleeping on my side since about week 6 of my pregnancy as I knew I'd find it tough.

But, I just can' sleep on my side!! I can't get comfortable enough to sleep if I am not on my back, and I invariably end up with pins and needles in my legs or hands if I lie on my side. I ALWAYS wake up on my back, willreadjust to try and get back to sleep on my side, but it doesn't work, so I either end up not sleeping, or moving onto my back just so I can get some sleep and can function at work the next day..

I don't currently have a visible bump, although at certain angles I look slightly pudgier in the middle than I did 14 weeks ago. I've also not bought any kind of additional long/wedge/ V-shaped pillow yet..so can you please impart your advice on how you got used to sleeping on your side, and what tricks/pillows/witchcraft did you use to achieve it!

Thank you!

I don't think this is an issue until your third trimester. My advice would be to not worry and sleep however's comfortable. I've found that now I'm in my third trimester the only comfy position is on my side. Before that my back was the most comfy position.

I have a pregnancy pillow which I love. It wasn't cheap, but it's infinitely better than the one I used in my first pregnancy and I splashed out because I suffer from PGP. It's called a BBHugMe pillow.

I always sleep on my side anyway (can't get my neck comfy on my back) and I sleep kind of like the attached picture. My head is usually on my hand though.

Then I usually have my bottom leg straight and my top leg bent. I drive DH mad and clamp the duvet between them haha.

As above though, I think once you NEED to sleep on your side, your body will find that to be your most comfortable position :)

You don’t need to sleep on your side yet. Make the most of it while you can! I am a front sleeper and miss it dreadfully.

Thank you ladies... I may look into a pregnancy pillow as a future option. This is my first and I'm finding it hard to distinguish which of the advice I a solute ly need to take now and which can wait until my body and the baby dictates it!

Another vote for pregnancy pillow!

I got a pregnancy pillow really early on, I absolutely love it! I've told DH that I'm keeping it forever now!

Try an ordinary pillow between your knees. Sweet dreams.

Long U-shaped pregnancy pillow was my saviour. I still struggled a little with getting used to sleeping on my side and not my back but the pillow makes it near impossible to lie on your back. After a few weeks I was used to sleeping on my side and at 25 weeks I can now sleep without the pillow but choose not to because I love my pillow so much! 🙈
