Hi all just a quick question me and my DP have been trying for a baby for a couple of months without success I was using the apps and DTD when it said I was ovulating but it's not worked just wondering if anyone has used a BBT and had success with it.

I have mild PCOS so I struggled to work out when I was ovulating due to irregular cycles. I used a BBT thermometer that I bought from the states and it was really accurate. The key thing is to do it as soon as you wake up and before you move or talk, and to try to do it at the same time every day (hard at the weekends!).

I also used:

A ferning microscope to check my saliva. I bought this on amazon quite cheaply

Ovulation test strips. Again, buy on amazon very cheaply. Start using these a couple of days before you think you ovulate and continue until the test line is darker than the control. When it’s darker it means that you will ovulate in the next day or so. A feint line is a negative (unlike a pregnancy test)

Fertility Friend app to record everything. Brilliant app and well worth paying for.

TMI but I also checked my cervix and mucus. You can google how to do this and it’s incredibly accurate.

When you start doing this it’s amazing how aware of tiny changes in your body you become. Also key is to make sure you DTD before you ovulate as well as during and after to make sure you have the sperm ready to “meet” the egg!

Thank you LollyLarkin I have ordered a BBT and the test strips I just needed to know if it had worked for anyone because the only person I know that it worked for was my mum and she was the one that told me to try it. I have tried everything else under the sun I'm taking pregnancy vitamins I've changed my diet I'm excersing more and still nothing seems to be working not sure what more I can do. Feeling like there might be something wrong with me.

It’s so frustrating isn’t it? Have you tried taking the supplement Myo Inositol? I used that for my second (current!) pregnancy. It’s supposed to improve egg quality and regulate your cycle. You need to take 2000mg of it every day. This is the one I used www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0013OUKPC/ref=mp_s_a_1_3_a_it?ref=plSrch&keywords=inositol+powder&dpPl=1&dpID=41OhUiFpitL&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1524321629&sr=8-3

I also used Instead Softcups after DTD to keep everything inside (sorry, TMI again! Blush) Weirdly they’re really expensive on amazon now but you can get a reusable version that looks just as good. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B079JYJBF2/ref=sspa_mw_detail_0?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforum-21

Don’t forget that it can take a while for even highly fertile, healthy couples to get pregnant. It’s just a case of catching the egg at the right time, you’ll soon be an expert!

LollyLarkin it really is so frustrating you think your doing everything right and expect it to happen straight away and then my body seems to just let me down. I will give them a try thank you right now I think am willing to try anything just to get pregnant christ I even tried having my legs up in the air after sex and not even that helps. Thank you good luck with your pregnancy.

I just used a normal thermometer - the old fashioned glass/mercury type.
After a year of trying, I was pregnant in 3 months. As soon as we worked out the cycle pattern and mybfertile days.
But
a) This - The key thing is to do it as soon as you wake up and before you move or talk, and to try to do it at the same time every day
and
b) no sex for a few days before your "right time", including DH DIY jobs. Go for maximum sperm count.

Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 21/04/2018 16:31

Thank you Hereatnumber7 I will remember that same time every day and no sex a few days before thank you. I'm taking on board every piece of advice I get because it all helps and it's good to get advice from people who have been down this road before.

We were trying for 6 months. Tried a bbt and got pregnant that month. At my 12 week scan I was bang on my dates to the day according to bbt (and OPKs). It does work but you have to use it properly.

BiscayTrafalgarFitzroy · 21/04/2018 16:37

Should have added I even got an implantation dip with my bbt.

Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 21/04/2018 17:36

Thank you BiscayTrafalgarFitzroy that makes me feel really postive about going down the bbt route it seems to work well for everyone. What's an implantation dip?

OP posts:
BiscayTrafalgarFitzroy · 21/04/2018 17:48

Sometimes there's a dip in bbt after ovulation when the fertilised egg implants in the uterus wall. It showed up for me 6dpo although not everyone gets this so don't worry you don't see it. Good luck!

Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 21/04/2018 17:53

Thank you for that BiscayTrafalagFitzroy someone on facebook thought that had that for 3 months and it turned out to just be their period arriving early they told me not to do bbt because it causes too much stress. Can't understand how checking your temp would be stressful but each to their own. Thank you all these postive stories have made me feel better and more hopeful about trying it this way.

OP posts:
Grumpos · 21/04/2018 20:25

Temping and charting was crucial for me as I didn’t ovulate in the middle of my cycle (as a lot of women don’t) so until I worked this out by using a bbt and charting my ovulation rise I wasn’t having enough sex in my fertile window!
One tip though - do not allow yourself to get obsessed! Charting is retrospective so sometimes you need to have a few mths data to really see where your rise is!
Good luck

Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 21/04/2018 22:15

Thank you Grumpos that's my problem I don't know when I ovulate so my mum suggested bbt in order see exactly when I ovulate she thinks I might be like her and my sister and I ovulate at different times every month but the only way to find out is to try this and see what happens. I will try not to get obsessed or too caught up in it all that was probably part of my down fall with the apps and why it never worked. Thank you Smile
