When should I expect by Mat1B from the Midwife?

Hello

I know I should probably know this, particularly as this is my 2nd pg, but I can't remember, so thought I ask you lovely, knowledgeable ladies.

I have to give my Mat1B form to work by 15th June, but I'm not seeing my midwife until 14th June (I seem to remember with DD that I was seen every 4 weeks, but this time, I was seen at 16 weeks and then not again until 24 weeks). Anyway, point of the question, will my midwife have my form available at my appointment at 24 weeks on the 14th June, or should I ring her in advance and request it?

thanks for your help.

Obviously the title should be "when should I expect MY MAT1B from the Midwife?" - ooops!

26 weeks. You should be able to get it by ringing or when you have your next appointment when you're at or past 26 weeks.

probably health and safety or insurance purposes, but i also thought after 21 weeks was the norm

LadyOfTheFlowers · 13/05/2007 20:14

20 weeks she told me i'd get it, both times.
both times i had to badger to get it out of her.

Thank you all - knew I'd get a quick response from you all!!

Think I'll ring MW and check it is available when I see her.

You can get it anytime from 20 weeks but not a day earlier. It is probably worth leaving a message for your mw to ensure that she has one on her when she sees you.

ChocolateFace · 13/05/2007 21:03

Ring in advance to request it incase you forget like I did. My midwives always had to be rimided about 3 times, but your GP can give you one instead.

MerlinsBeard · 13/05/2007 21:03

i had to ask both times for mine. can;t rememeber when i got it though (sorry)

Ceolas · 13/05/2007 21:05

I got mine at 22 week appt.

PurpleLostPrincess · 13/05/2007 22:34

I was concerned about this too and have made an appointment to see my mw this Thursday in the hope that she will issue it for me (I'll be 21+5). Perhaps I'll leave a message for her beforehand so she has it ready!

Hope you get yours soon!

SlightlyMadSlipstream · 13/05/2007 22:37

I didn't get mine until after I had given birth with DTDs. That was at 26+6 weeks.

elsieanjoanne · 13/05/2007 22:38

think i had mine at 29 weeks she woulndnt give me before that! good luck

ellenkpa · 13/05/2007 22:40

it used to be 26 weeks, it was 4 years ago when i was pg with ds1, but it has been changed at some point to 21 weeks.

PurpleLostPrincess · 13/05/2007 22:44

I would imagine they had to widen the window a bit because employers need it by 25 weeks I think...??

ellenkpa · 13/05/2007 22:46

no idea but it confused my doctor! had obviously been a while since she'd done one, work wanted it as another lady had provided hers and she was due same time as me. asked doc and she said no, not until 26 weeks. I got her to check the form and she was suitably embarrassed

SlightlyMadSlipstream · 13/05/2007 22:52

I have a feeling my employer needed it by 29 weeks - as that is the point at which you confirm you will be taking maternity leave. I guess that emplyers can vary though

MrsMar · 14/05/2007 11:40

My employer say I have to submit the form by 25 weeks. I'm not seeing my mw until 28 weeks, but I'm seeing my gp at 24 weeks as part of shared care, and the receptionist at my doctors surgery said I can get one from her. I'd make double sure with work though, on our HR intranet site at work, there are dire warnings that if we don't get our matb1 forms in before 25 weeks we don't get maternity pay! argh!

fettleandminifettle · 14/05/2007 11:43

Thanks girls - MrsMar that is why I'm worrying too. Work need to know by 25 weeks that I'm taking maternity leave and that i'm entitled to it [no really, I am pg, I don't just have a cushion stuffed up by jumper!!]

Glad I'm not the only one who is confused and I will definitely ring and confirm as it does sound a bit hit and miss!

I'm pretty sure that, legally, you need to give the form to your employer by the 15th week before your due date (ie 25 weeks, I guess). And you can get your form from 20 weeks onwards. But in my case, I only saw the ultrasonographer at 20 weeks, so will have to wait until my 24 week check to get it from the midwife. Though I guess you could make a special appointment if it's urgent?

bellabelly · 14/05/2007 14:06

You can also get the form from your GP - i had a GP appt last week and asked for it because work were pesting for it. I think LEGALLY, as long as you've given your workplace written notice of your intention to take maternity leave (ie a letter), you CAN then submit the MatB1 form later. BUT to be honest it's probably less hassle to just get hold of the form.
