Cat doesn't like me anymore :(

Sounds so bizarre but in the last couple of weeks, I've noticed the behaviour of one of my cats has changed completely. He really doesn't seem to like me - he hasn't been aggressive or anything but he seems to completely avoid me and has become very clingy to my DH. Today he hid under the spare bed until DH came home, even when I tried to coax him out with toys, treats etc. He used to come to me for cuddles a lot but now he won't go near me Sad not sure why this has changed in the last few weeks (I'm 36 weeks pregnant now so maybe he's just scared because I'm huge) - has anyone else had this with their pet? Makes me feel sad as he used to be very different and also makes me worry a wee bit about what he'll be like when baby arrives...

In comparison, my other cat (girl), although not acting very differently, has become extra fussy with me and now is wanting to sit on my lap when she never used to ever Confused

maybe I'm overthinking it and need to just put this down to cats being weird

I'm 19 weeks and one of the cats has started running away when I come into the room, or glaring at me!

Clarashan · 19/04/2018 05:06

My cat has started showing a lot more affection to my DH, but still likes to come for cuddles with me. Hes started laying his head on my belly. I'm only 14 weeks though so this might change. Maybe the baby kicked one time and he got a fright.

My cat was the same when I was pregnant - he went right off me. My twins are over a year old now and he has just about forgiven me! He will sit on my lap again. He still shows a marked preference for my husband though. Sad

My cat did this, I thought I was going bonkers as no one believed me! I also had 2 dogs I didn't know, off their lead act aggressively towards me. That was a horrible experience.

I hate pets Angry

Oh gosh, I'm glad it isn't just me! Even my husband thought I was making it up until yesterday! Hope my cat decides he likes me again soon, he's not usually this much of an asshole aloof. Today he let my husband fuss him and then deliberately limboed away from me when I tried to do the same - even more annoying because bending down to stroke him isn't easy now Hmm

My female cat knew before we did! She only wanted to sit on my lap (after 5 years of not being a lap cat at all) pretty much as soon as we (must have) conceived. OH googled it and apparently it's a "thing".

Boy cat on the other hand was always my little shadow, but lost interest from about 4 weeks until recently (21 weeks) and now he is back to his old self. That might also be because the girl cat wasn't letting him get near me Grin

PuffinCat likes to playfight and pounce on ankles, but I have been remarkably scratch free since getting pregnant! DH still gets full whack he does provoke her. DCat has also ramped up the hunting - have had two birds in the past week - I think they might be gifts for me! Unfortunately for her I'm an ungrateful cow who takes her presents away and grounds her!

Kittypillar · 20/04/2018 09:07

Aaaah @skiclothes, your cats sound so sweet. Glad the boy has come around now. This morning mine was meowing at our bedroom door, then when I opened it (i.e. not DH) he ran away...

And oh no on the birdy gifts @TeachingPuffin - those are never fun to have brought to the house. Especially the ones that aren't quite dead yet Blush cats, such a joy...

@Kittypillar Who knows how long it will last for though - im not sure what either of them will make of the baby when it actually arrives!

@TeachingPuffin the boy cat has been bringing in dead shrews and mice, even large bell on a collar hasn't stopped him. Hopefully its a phase....

To top it off, took the cat to the vet and she bit me really hard on my knuckle :( It swelled up and I have antibiotics. She's still at the vet getting her own wound sorted out... Not a good day!

billybagpuss · 20/04/2018 10:46

Animals are very sensitive to these thinks and are very aware. By boy cat loved sitting on my bump until baby decided to kick it off. I still laugh and that was over 20 years ago.

FranticallyPeaceful · 20/04/2018 10:58

My cat turned into a shit to the point where I am randomly attacked for trying to give strokes, he is a VERY placid cat usually.
My dog on the other hand has become closer and keeps sniffing my belly and resting his head on it and just stares at me
