So I had all these plans to eat really healthily during pregnancy...however I am 9 weeks in and whilst I don't exactly feel sick all the time, I cannot face the thought of eating most vegetables, meat, dairy, grains. I am living on white toast and pasta with the odd custard creme biscuit. I am worried I am going to turn into a potato (without actually eating any). I was weighed this week at my midwife's appointment and I have already nearly put on a stone, which was a real shock. I am more worried about the lack of nutrition...?? Does anybody have any advice? Will this pass?

This is normal and i was in the same at the start i found my appetite came back around 11/12 weeks

MrsSPx · 18/04/2018 19:16

I was the same.. And still am at 26 weeks! I did slimming world prior to falling pregnant but since falling pregnant I rarely eat fruit or veg. There is just no part of me that wants to eat it currently! So I don't Blush
Just take your vitamins and that should help until you get your normal appetite back hopefully x

First trimester has been a nightmare for me both times. Constant nausea that only went away when I ate high carb or sugary stuff... which meant I was munching pastries pretty constantly. Also went from being vegetarian to eating bacon. Repulsed by vegetables. Obsessed with random really unhealthy stuff I never had any interest in before such as Appletiser and Haribo.
My son was born completely healthy and my appetite went back to normal after his birth. Hopefully it will go back to normal after this baby is born too!
I put on absolutely loads of weight the first time but got back in shape again after. Hopefully will be the same this time.
I wouldnt worry just keep trying your best and taking the pregnancy vitamins!

I was exactly the same. And got myself in an awful nausea - surviving on bagel and marmite - lethargy, sad mood, not exercising cycle.
I was so worried about all the stuff you said above.
I hope it helps, to reassure that most of this subsides by 11/12 weeks. Everything is back to normal now really, slight nausea but not stopping me.
It's not fair is it!!

I think a lot of women, myself included, have idealistic ideas about how we'll eat perfectly and not gain more than 2 stone through the whole pregnancy.

Then you get pregnant and reality rears its ugly head.

I've compensated with vitamins, supplements, and protein water to make up for my dietary shortcomings.

I'm the same can't stomach the thought of most things carbs and full fat coke are the only thing that take the edge off my nauseaBlush

Cat12321 · 19/04/2018 09:30

Don't beat yourself up, OP. Just make sure that you're taking your folic acid etc. I always relied on Pregnacare, but some people say it makes nausea worse - worth a try though Smile

Peanutty86 · 19/04/2018 09:53

I lived off carbs (bread or pasta with nothing but salted butter) did the first trimester. I couldn't stand eating fruit or veg. Just make sure you take your vitamins!

louella99 · 19/04/2018 11:03

I had back sickness up to 16 weeks (still happening occasionally at 21 weeks) and I felt like you.. some days I could only stomach things like salty crisps, marmite on crackers, diet fizzy drinks for the nausea. Like others above I kept up with my pregnancy vitamins and take a pregnancy-safe omega 3. Overall I feel better now and I eat well as far as I can.. if I fancy veg or a salad I munch it down before I go off the idea!

louella99 · 19/04/2018 11:04

Bad* sickness

Yarnswift · 19/04/2018 11:06

Seriously, eat what you can.

I’m pregnant at the moment and spent the first 18 weeks vomiting up to 30x a day. I’m now down to a few times a day and my diet is dire - I can’t face most healthy stuff.

Dc1 was born healthy, strong and absolutely fine. They take what they need from you. Eat what you can, take your vitamins and stop beating yourself up.

LaurG · 19/04/2018 11:34

I was EXACTLY the same. I literally ate nothing but white carbs, cheese and ham for the first three months. I don't usually eat like this so I felt really guilty but it was all I could stomach. Apart from the odd banana I don't think I ate any fruit or veg.

Don't worry about it. It gets better and you will be able to stomach normal food again soon.

Hairgician · 19/04/2018 12:33

Tis normal I'm afraid. First time round I lived on dairylea and crackers til hg settled. This time round full sugar coke and sprite and custard pots Got me through worst. Diet not too bad in general, though too many cookies and pastries! And had a wild notion for sour wine gums and by God they are addictive! Whole bag inhaled in about 20mins!Blush
Last night's dinner was spag bol and garlic bread. Really wanted it so put in loads of onion and mushrooms. Too sick to eat today though, dp away to get me veda bread.
