Heterotopic Pregnancy

Hello everyone. Apologies in advance for the long post.

I was just curious if anybody here had experienced a heterotopic pregnancy? I found out a week and a half a go i was pregnant- to my complete suprise as i have been taking the minipill and also breast feeding, since i had a baby in December.

Anyway a couple of days after getting a positive i started bleeding lightly, though also passing some clots. My GP said i was most likely having a miscarriage and sent me on my way. Two days later i started to feel pain on my left hand side that went all the way into my ribs, still bleeding lightly. I visited an out of hours doctor two days after the pain started as i couldn't take it anymore and he diagnosed me with a uterine infection, gave me antibiotics and sent me home, which i thought at the time was strange as there was no concern for the baby.

The next day the pain was much worse so i went to A and E (yesterday), i ended up having an urgent scan and was told i had one healthy pregnancy at 6 weeks and 4 days in the uterus and one pregnancy on my left ovary though they couldn't exactly determine what was happening. They want to re scan me next Tuesday and said i was to come back asap if the pain or bleeding got worse. The doctor i saw was very dismissive, avoided my questions and couldn't wait to get me out the door. I left utterly confused.

So does anybody have any knowledge about this? I'm still in lots of pain and the bleeding has not stopped. Sad

Sounds awful. Ive just lost 1 twin at 8 weeks, 8 days later Im still bleeding and so worried its the other twin. However I havent had like you where one is in the ovary that sounds excruciatingly painful! Really hope the pain eases off soon and that you are ok!

I think you should go back to hospital and say you want to be admitted. I wouldn't be at all happy waiting until next tuesday for another scan or with the dismissive attitude shown by your doctors so far.

Have they reassired you that the ovary/tube can't burst or anything?

Hey guys i came back to the EPU this morning with awful pain and still bleeding. I saw a doctor and he was originally quite dismissive again and said my blood pressure and vitals are okay so i should go home and wait for Tuesday's scan. Then two minutes later he came back and said actually we need to admit you as some of your symptoms may indicate some internal bleeding?!

How did he go from one extreme to another? I'm sat in a hospital bed right now doped up on pain relief and it still hurts. I'm still waiting for them to decide what to do with me. It's ridiculous!

I'm sorry to hear about your loss venus and I do hope you can get to the bottom of the current bleeding. Rest up as much as possible and i hope all will be well for you.

I think that maybe the dr mentioned your case to a colleague and the colleague said to admit you. Personally I would not be happy with original dr continuing my care - I wouldn't have confidence in his ability to make the right decisions and would request an alternative.
Wishing you the best Flowers

How stressful (and painful) for you. I had a ruptured ectopic (single pregnancy) recently and it was the escalation in pain that triggered action, as initially the hospital had some hope the pregnancy would naturally miscarry or be reabsorbed (they couldn't actually find it on a scan). I suspect the escalation in your pain is what is making them think they need to take action, given they know you have a heterotopic pregnancy. I was stable when I was admitted to ER and was monitored in resus before surgery.

Just wanted to post a quick update. Had a scan again today and they confirmed a yolk sac either on my left ovary or the tube, they cannot tell. I'll be having surgery monday. Thanks for being an ear for me everyone x
