How accurate is it when determining the sex before 20 weeks?

Just that really. I had a scan done last week at 17 weeks and the sonographer said she is very certain about the sex of the baby. But at 17 weeks, is that too early to really know for certain?

I had a sonographer tell me at 11 weeks she thought it was a girl (based on nub theory). Then i had a private scan at 16 weeks and it was reconfirmed as a girl and then again at 20 weeks.

You definitely can tell, i just think it depends on their position sometimes.

Fridasfridgefreezer · 16/04/2018 15:11

I was told at 12 weeks and it was correct at 20. I think 17 you would be able to see.

FairfaxAikman · 16/04/2018 15:14

I had extra scans for health reasons - we were told at 20 and 28 weeks it was a girl.
From 32 weeks onwards it became bloody obvious he was either a boy or a three-legged girl

From 13/14 weeks you can have a reasonable guess. By 16 weeks their external genitals should be fully formed well enough to tell for sure if it's a girl or boy (obviously, nothing's 100% guaranteed, but it should be as clear as it's going to be by ultrasound at that point).

I'd imagine you'd definitely be able to see if baby was a boy. I had a gender scan at this gestation and there was no mistaking he was a boy!

PinkHeart5914 · 16/04/2018 15:41

It’s been spot on in all my pregnancies by 16 weeks and everyone I know who has had a sexing scan done privately at 16 weeks

SoyDora · 16/04/2018 15:42

Companies offer private sexing scans from 16 weeks because that’s when they feel confident they can tell. Of course it’s never 100%

Lofari · 16/04/2018 15:42

20 week scan I was told I was having a girl.

He most assuredly is not one!

Help201602 · 16/04/2018 15:52

I was told a girl at private 8 week scan, it was correct.

pimlicolife · 16/04/2018 15:56

Hi I know the private scan places I went to offered gender scans at 16 weeks onwards so I'm guessing it's pretty obvious from then.

DairyisClosed · 16/04/2018 16:02

I was to ld it was a boy before twenty weeks. NIPT confirmed it. Second child so bo

SPARKS17 · 16/04/2018 16:19

15 weeks sonographer guessed a girl, confirmed by NIPT and 20 week scan (at 19 weeks).

MsHopey · 16/04/2018 16:26

I had a gender scan at 16 weeks 6 days.
I was told a boy. It's a little boy I've got.

EmmaJR1 · 16/04/2018 16:31

I was told a boy at 12 weeks...
20/22/28 and 30 week scans all say girl...
