Second early scan

Hi folks. 2 weeks ago I had a little bleeding so went to the EPU for an early scan. The baby was the correct size but its heart rate was slightly slower than it should be and so I have to go back for a second scan on Wednesday this week. The midwife did tell us that it was likely to end in miscarriage so I'm not getting my hopes up as whatever will be will be. However I am curious to know if anyone else has been through something similar and is willing to share their story? This is my first pregnancy and I am 9 weeks. Thank you!

What was the baby's heart rate ?

@pickled They didn't tell me or write it down anywhere. Just said it was slightly slower than it should be. I didn't think to ask.

I've done a quick google on your behalf (I assume you have resisted the lure of google, always wise) - there are mixed stories on other message boards but quite a few cases where the low heartrate was a one-off and baby's heart speeded up. One statistic quoted that low heart rate increases risk of mc to 20-30%. Although this is high, mc is not inevitable! I hope you get a happy outcome but I think your attitude is really good that you don't seem to be panicking. Stress is no good for baby so keep calm and fingers crossed for you on Wednesday xx

Thank you so much for that. I have been ignoring Google as much as possible! xx

Yes, going through that now.

Had a miniscule amount of spotting followed by one large clot. Well, I thought it was large (pinky finger sized) but Dr Google seemed to think large was fist sized clots. I went to the hospital (I was overseas for a work project) and had blood tests and an ultrasound at what I thought was 6 weeks. They could see an embryo in the right place and said all was as expected at the time but it was 50/50 as to whether I would miscarry before 12 weeks. They called a threatened miscarriage.

I went to my own doctor when I got home and had a scan at what I thought was 7 weeks. The baby had developed more (fetal pole visible etc) which was a good sign but measured 5.5 weeks not 7 as I expected.

Hopefully, my dates were wrong. Ultrasound 3 is scheduled for Friday which will be about 7 weeks according to the new dates. Hopefully, there will be a heartbeat as that reduces miscarriage risk dramatically.

You have already heard the heartbeat - that is great. Apparently, there is huge variation. A little slow is not necessarily a problem. Could you perhaps ask for your records to get the number? That might put your mind at rest.
