Possible ectopic or MS

Hey ladies

So I took a plan b March 22nd after u lmprotected sex with my BFadt toward tk two weeks and I got a BFP. I had Normal Symptoms and then last night after work I had stringy pink mucus and slight cramping. I went to the ED. They confirmed my cervix was closed and I was pregnant. My levels were low for me 389. I’ve had two successful pregnancies and my levels were alway extremely high. I went home and when I woke up the pain got worse and more mucus. I went back to the ED and they did an Ultrasound and couldn’t find anything. They said there was no intrauterine Pregnancy and couldn’t see anything in the tubes. There was also no fluid. They told me to recheck my levels in two days to see. I’m sure at this point it may be be a viable pregnancy but I’m scared about having my tube damaged or removed. I am having back pain on one side and loose stools. If I catch it early can my tube be saved

If it is ectopic then it is unlikely the tube could be saved. I think it is something they only even consider doing if you’ve only one tube left and it isn’t guaranteed to be successful.

Your symptoms could be standard early pregnancy symptoms (nothing would necessarily be seen on a scan depending on how early it is) but if you’re concerned at all that it could be ectopic, go back. Especially if you notice any other symptoms.

‘the entire fallopian tube containing the pregnancy is removed if your other fallopian tube looks healthy – otherwise, removing the pregnancy without removing the whole tube may be attempted.’

I’m sorry you are going through this. So if they catch it early and your levels don’t rise to high, yes, you tube can be saved. They give you a very nasty injection called methotrexate, which is a chemo drug. It stops the pregnancy from developing. I do have to say that this med is not nice tho and made me quite sick. You will need to take some time off.
You may be lucky tho as if you levels don’t continue to rise too much then it might mean that your body has already managed it. Just watch for pain in your shoulder and vomiting. If you get that go to hospital immediately.
I think if you already have blood that’s quite a good sign. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you. It’s a horrid thing to go through.

Just left the drs. Still no answers, he told me bleeding doesn’t necessarily mean something bad, but we just have to check the levels. I know my body and I know this Pregnancy is about to end. I had shoulder pain and nausea the day I went to the ER. I just hate how medical professions blow things off and I’m in the field too.

JUst be really careful with that shoulder pain. If it gets worse go back to A&E. Didn’t they refer you straight away for a scan? Have you had much more blood. I’m so sorry you are going though this oP. It’s such a horrible situation.

Nope. My OB wants to see my levels on Thursday before sending me for a scan. The bleeding is worse but not painful. It’s like period blood. I want to go back tonight, but my boyfriend thinks I should just wait.

Don't mess about with expected ectopic. Better to be safe that sorry.

It does sound like your body is dealing with it. With any luck the scan will show no free fluid in your abominable cavity and you levels will have with doubled or dropped. From what I can remember from last year, they are looking for strange small increases in your levels. A normal pregnancy doubles.
I didn’t start to bleed until 3 days after I had had the injection. I’ll keep everything crossed for you. I hope you have some good support around you. Xxx

IME, as soon as shoulder pain is mentioned in early pregnancy, especially alongside bleeding or other ectopic symptoms, doctors take it very seriously-in A&E, they send anyone with suspected or potential ectopic, straight to assessment. Ectopic pregnancies can be dangerous so keep pushing to be seen. I think you are right to go back.

Not all ectopics are treated with surgery. I had methotrexate as my HCG levels didn't increase significantly - they just wouldn't go down on their own.

I also didn't have any shoulder pain or anything like that. Just constant spotting. Hope you're doing okay OP.

Sorry I should say, my understanding - having had one rather than googling - is that the reason people feel shoulder pain is because the pregnancy is large enough to put pressure on nerves. Shoulder pain is a sign that the tube is going to burst. If that is what you have, it WILL be visible on a scan. With low hormone levels, you are unlikely to be at that stage. It's unusual to see anything on a scan until your HCG levels are close to 1500.

I hope those who are advising on this thread, do so from a place of knowledge or experience rather than googling as it's really unhelpful.

Those who have commented have advised nothing more than for the OP to seek more advice from medical professionals

No one has said shoulder pain is the only ectopic symptom but shoulder pain should not be ignored if ectopic pregnancy is a possibility.

Pink you suggested she'd have to have surgery which is not right. There are other ways of treating ectopic pregnancies.

Okay ladies so I’m back in the ED. I went to work this morning and the left sided pain got worse. It doesn’t help that I was the only women there today so I couldn’t even explain what was really going on.
The bleeding has picked up and my left shoulder and back are hurting. Will keep everyone updated.

Yea. Those were my levels from Tuesday. The hospital redrew the labs and my number was 440.
So 389-770-440 and they want to send me home again

So your levels are dropping? Sounds like it might be a miscarriage especially if you're still bleeding. Sorry OP. It's really shit. Have you got any support at home?

I’m so sorry you are going through this. Please don’t go to work tomorrow. Take some time off and rest. I’m glad that you numbers have dropped naturally without you having to have intervention but I’m sorry you are going through this. Do take pain killers if the pain is bad. Don’t brave it out. If you feel terrible please go to A&E. All the best to you and I’m so sorry. I know how awful this is. Xxx

Thanks Guys. The drs don’t think it’s ectopic now and a natural miscarriage but they still have to wait and see of course. Thanks for the support !! I just want this whole thing to be over with.

Kirinm if you look what I wrote I said (if it was ectopic) ectopic pregnancies are likely to require surgery and then I showed what the NHS page said which I think is more helpful than anecdotal based advice. Also if ectopic is ever suspected, it’s best to point people to the right services.

OP, I agree with aetw, take however much time you need and don’t think you have to deal with it alone if you need support or pain relief.

It isn't 'likely' though. That's my point. It's a scary thing to say when you don't know what's going on. What were you hoping to achieve other than frightening someone who is already scared? Oh sorry but you're likely to lose a Fallopian tube?!

You evidently know nothing about ectopic pregnancy whereas I do because I've experienced it over a period of many weeks. Googling the nhs website doesn't help anyone.

I was giving her the NHS advice and information, not my personal opinion. What a strange life you must lead to think people would be deliberately unkind for the sake of it on a thread like this. Maybe you judge by your own moral standards?

There is nothing ‘evidently’ about anything I’ve said (you clearly don’t know what that word means) as you have no idea of what experiences I have or haven’t had. I stand by what I have said; it’s best alongside anecdotes to give OPs the NHS advice and to follow recommendations to always get it checked out.

OP, I absolutely was not trying to make a situation more worrying, just wanted to make sure you had the NHS info. I shall hide this thread now so I don’t read any more goady taunts by kirinm.
