Pregnancy test fainter at 12w

As the title suggests, I'm panicking because I stupidly took a "reassurance" test and its so much fainter than previously. I dont get my scan until the end of the week and I just dont feel pregnant, hence doing the test. I know it was stupid because all I've done is made myself whittle. Can anyone tell me to get a grip and that it's normal to be fainter at this stage? Thanks

I believe after a certain amount of time pregnancy tests won't work as the hormone is too high. I think you're supposed to dilute the urine with water.

Not to worry OP, it's called the hook effect, due to high levels of HCG.

PotteringAlong · 14/04/2018 11:37

Completely normal. Stop doing pregnancy tests!

sparkles212 · 14/04/2018 12:37

Thank you all. I've read about the hook effect loads too but the mind does funny things in ""whittle mode" ! I will step away from the tests now and try to wait until my scan on Thurs. What will be will be x

Add some water to it, that should create a dark line again.

Try not to worry, I had a similar thing at 9 weeks, I’d gone to the Dr’s and got the faintest of positives. For some reason my usual surgery wasn’t open, so had to see a delegated Dr.

He was really empathetic and said I guess you know what’s coming. (Multiple losses) I had a scan and all was fine, they ended up being PFB who has just made me smell their feet.

Try not to worry, easier said than done, also tests are all different in how they react. So you could be heavily pregnant and some tests are just iffy. Call me the pee stick Queen Grin

I tried taking a test with my first pregnancy at about 35 weeks because I realised people kept their positive tests and I didn’t have one Blush. It was negative! I had a ten pound baby five weeks later... PP’s are right, the hormones become too great for the tests to pick up.

How you doing Sparkles? When is your scan?

AppleCocoon · 19/04/2018 00:04

HCG levels don’t continue to rise throughout pregnancy. They actually start dropping at some point. I really wouldn’t worry about it.

sparkles212 · 19/04/2018 06:50

My scan is today at 11am. I feel sick with nerves, the usual "I really dont feel pregnant" ones. I'm usually so level headed and frank, I know the odds etc. I suppose it's natural to worry when you've never experienced it before x

Good luck @sparkles212. I'm sure you will get the reassurance you need. Enjoy it because it is truly amazing to see a tiny life on the screen, going about his/ her business with no idea they're being watched!

Let us know how you get on Thanks

dozydaisy23 · 19/04/2018 20:19

@sparkles212 how was this morning?

sparkles212 · 19/04/2018 21:41

Everything was fine thank you. Lovely to see everything wriggling about on screen! Feel daft so worrying myself silly now! X
