Hi all.
I'm 14w5. Was ill around 6 weeks ago with cold/flu and left me with a terrible cough which took weeks to go. I've now been struck down with it again and been coughing since Monday and I cannot cope with it any more, it's killing me! I've done all the remedies I know I'm allowed; honey and lemon, vicks, hot drinks, cold drinks etc and nothing is working!
Have any of you ever been told you can have a medicine or anything else for a cough? I'm desperate!Sad
Thank you!x

When I had a cough recently, I put Vicks on soles of feet and put socks on at bedtime. Definitely made a difference to my coughing at night.

I had a dreadful cough while pregnant - so many pulled muscles! Is it chesty? I definitely found cider vinegar helpful in reducing mucus and clearing my throat and sinuses (swallow a shot three times a day). Saline flushes for your sinuses as well if they're clogged up as that will worsen the cough. Humidifiers are handy as well, you can pick them up fairly cheap from Amazon and add a few drops of olbas to help keep the cough down overnight.

I had a cough recently and pharmacist said no cough medicine was suitable for pregnant women. Then I found a benylin one which specifically says on the packet that you can take whilst pregnant or breastfeeding. It worked wonders!

Go back to the GP. This happened to me after having flu in pregnancy, I ended up with a chest infection. It's really worth getting checked out.

I had a permanent cough through my childhood and as soon as I got a cold as an adult I ended up with dreadful coughs. I even ended up with bronchitis at the end of an overly eventful pregnancy. The only things that work for me are cough medicine with dextromethorphan in it (and I'm not sure if you can have that when pregnant), rest, sleeping sitting up and hardest of all trying not to cough. It takes a bit of concentration but the less you cough the quicker it all goes away. Hope you feel better soon.

If your chest hurts do go and check it isn't a chest infection and be aware sometimes there can be infection but not rattle on the chest. I had one for months once because doctors didn't hear anything.

Thyme tea really helped with my last bad cough. Use one of those loose tea infusers and just any old thyme.
Fresh is best, but even dried thyme from a jar was ok
