Sister has shingles...

I'm 14 weeks pg and have had chicken pox. Sisters dr said I need to tell my mw as we have been in contact a lot recently and might need a blood test.

She has no rash and just has rib pain. Should I be worried? I don't even think I can go straight to my mw yet as I'm only 14 weeks.

Thanks :)

I wouldn’t be worried. If you have had chicken pox you will be fine.

Maybe the doctor as concerned that you hadn’t had chicken pox before to suggest this.

No I wouldn’t worry if you’ve had it but you can request to see if you’re immune or not (I didn’t have to have bloods redone they just used sample they already had).

Your poor sister though!

Thank you both! I'm not worried either but its nice to hear other people say it too!

OP you should have a number to call for your community midwife on your notes from your booking appt at 8-10 weeks.
Midwife would be happy to take queries like this, it's what their number is there for.

I’m sure shingles is only contagious if you touch the sores and the liquid so there’d be no risk if you only seen her before the rash came?

But you can get chicken pox more than once. No harm in being checked surely.

Shingles can only pass on chicken pox by contact with fluid from the blisters. It is not airborne like chicken pox itself. If you have had chicken pox then there is even less risk
