Normal? Hard Bump 38 weeks

Yesterday evening my bump went very hard. It felt uncomfortable throughout the night and every time I turned over in bed it felt a bit tender and very heavy.

I had a routine midwife appointment this morning so mentioned it to her and she said it sounds like braxton hicks. I was surprised because I assumed braxton hicks would come and go like contractions do??? Whereas my tummy is just constantly solid as a rock.
When she felt my tummy she agreed that it felt firm and even commented that she might struggle to tell me position of baby, but she didn't appear concerned at all. Baby is head down but not engaged.

Its now 5 hours after my appointment and tummy is still hard. I've felt movements throughout the day but for some reason its playing on my mind that something could be wrong. Am I worrying for nothing, this is my first baby so don't know what to expect.

If you are still feeling movement and the midwife has seen what you are concerned about and isn't worried then I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Might just be a sign that D day is getting close Grin

I had exactly this two nights ago. I assumed it was BH and discussed with my midwife at my routine appointment the next morning. She agreed it was BH and fine even though it was one long continuous contractions and not little ones.

I'm 32 weeks.

I've had this a lot in the last week, currently 37+5. My midwife also said it was Braxton Hicks which I don't believe as like you said it's constant!
I'm putting it down to baby's position and trying not to worry too much as still getting plenty of movement. It's just so uncomfortable and my skin feels like it's going to split Confused

Thank you for the replies, makes me feel a lot better that others are experiencing similar.
I think I wouldn't have worried so much if it was my usual midwife, but it was someone I'd never met before and I felt as though she wasn't listening.
Bump did soften up a little earlier on and is now rock hard again just in time for bed Confused oh joy!
