I cannot take this anymore ! It's making me so miserable I go all day without it then as soon as I want to sleep BAM it starts and I'm at the end of my patience 😪 I have tried everything and I'm still struggling with restless legs so bad , I'm exhausted to the point my eyes are rolling but my legs just won't fucking stop!

argh

the only thing that works for me is to get up and eat something

good luck

HawthornLantern · 10/04/2018 02:22

Tonic water can work for me if you haven’t tried it yet

Also my Mum taught me an odd exercise that often works - simple and non strenuous

Stand up, make sure you have something like a chair or wall nearby for balance and then, raise your leg ( either one - you will do the other next) in front of you. Don’t force it beyond your comfort zone - just let it stretch. Lift and lower the leg 5 times. Then raise and lower the leg sideways (I don’t stretch much in this direction) for 5 more times and lastly stretch the leg out behind you 5 times. Then repeat with the other leg. It almost always works for me - hope it does for you.

Make sure your magnesium and iron are okay--they both give me RLS.

LeighaJ · 10/04/2018 06:27

Waterfountain97

I got this in the second trimester, within a couple of weeks of taking the iron supplements I was prescribed it stopped. I didn't know that anaemia was responsible for about 15% of cases of RLS.

HoorayForHolidays · 10/04/2018 06:48

No advice but lots of sympathy OP. Hang in there, it'll go eventually.

pinkhorse · 10/04/2018 07:00

Lay on the floor with your legs up the wall for longer than 5 minutes. Works for me when I've got restless legs after exercise.

SeaToSki · 10/04/2018 07:06

I second the magnesium supplements

Tartyflette · 10/04/2018 07:11

Much sympathy Water, my restless leg syndrome started in pregnancy too. I find swimming helps (not during the night Grin ) but getting up and moving about is a good idea.
I'm on medication (Ropinirole) now and I believe there are other meds for it too, you could see your GP and ask if there's anything you can take during pregnancy.

FWIW my RLS disappeared for several years after I gave birth, and for some people it doesn't come back at all..

igglepigglegingin · 10/04/2018 07:13

I agree, magnesium, iron and try not to go to sleep in a dark, silent room, it only made me focus on it more! Try falling asleep to an audio book, watch a film you've seen a million times before etc. It's awful - you have my sympathy!

Gunpowder · 10/04/2018 07:14

Epsom salts baths sometimes help. (Magnesium).

TossDaily · 10/04/2018 07:18

these have been a miracle cure for me, OP. I can't recommend them highly enough.

Poor you. RLS is vile Thanks

littlebillie · 10/04/2018 07:23

Legs up possibly lying on the bed and try and do this each night. I elevated mine by putting them up the wall and reading

obviouslymarvellous · 10/04/2018 07:25

Magnesium spray - it's brilliant stuff you can get from Holland and Barrett

ButtMuncher · 10/04/2018 07:40

I swore by peppermint spray from body shop - I had horrible restless legs in my second and third trimester so I sympathise!

MooChops89 · 10/04/2018 07:46

Right there with you OP - I'm 36 weeks and haven't had a decent nights sleep for ages because of bloody restless legs!! Will have a go at some of these suggestions as I feel like I'm going insane!

Waterfountain97 · 10/04/2018 11:09

Thankyou for all your suggestions everyone! I'm 26+3 and all of a sudden the past couple weeks it's gotten unbearable 😔 I understand when LO is here sleepless nights are a thing but there's a point in that but this I hate and it's so frustrating how it starts as soon as I want to sleep even if I lay down during the day for a while it doesn't happen but as soon as it strikes 10pm it happens I feel my partner massaging makes it more intense even the bath didn't do the trick last night and I was flipping my legs around like a whale for 30 minutes 🤷🏻‍♀️ It really is infuriating..I have midwife tomorrow should I mention this to her ?

Tonic water helped me. You have my every sympathy it was bloody hideous. I had so so much pain in my legs as well as this to contend with.

I slept ten times better with a newborn!

HalfStar · 10/04/2018 11:21

Had this hell in my 3 pregnancies. TAKE IRON.
Fwiw by the end of 3rd trimester each time it had passed so you may be in the worst of it now. But take iron unless your levels are sky high already (they probably aren't).
