Dating scan - 1 week ahead of my dates...

Is this normal to be a week further ahead? This is my third and I was tracking everything with an app so my dates were spot on.

I should be 12w 4 by dates but todays scan puts me at 13w 5!

Also worried that this will be a big baby, if the increase is the same for this one as my other 2 it will be over 10lb!!

I'm in the exact same boat. I was put forward a week at my 12 week scan. Due date was changed from 28th May to 22nd. I am also sure of my dates (lmp, conception, ovulation) so don't know what happened. My scan due date doesn't make any sense so I'm assuming baby was just measuring large at the scan. At the most, the baby could only be a day or two out.

I had this with my last baby. I was positive of my dates as I only had sex once the month I conceived. At the 20week scan they said she was measuring a week ahead and changed my due date. I explained why this wasn't possible as it meant I conceived a week before I actually had sex and I was worried about the baby being bigger than it should be. The hospital ignored me and insisted I must have made a mistake. Doctors can be so arrogant sometimes.

Anyway my dd was born on the exact due date I had predicted weighing 10lbs. Perfectly healthy but she did some damage to my lady garden lol

This time the hospital has agreed to do a growth scan at 36 weeks and if it looks like it's going to be another big child they've agreed to induce me a week early so I won't have the same problems I had last time.

If you have concerns make them clear to the midwife. The fact you've already had big babies should make them take you seriously.

Oh god, thanks both! I suspect it's a big baby. I wonder what it will measure at 20 weeks...

I measured 9 days ahead at mine and I'm pretty sure baby wasn't conceived whilst I was on my period. I think it might just be a tall/big one...though last baby had IUGR and was born on 1st centile at full term so v weird!

annlee3817 · 09/04/2018 22:28

This happened to me. Went for my 12 week scan and they put me at 13 weeks. The due date by my calculations was June 1st and their date was May 27th. I actually went into labour and had my DD on June 1st weirdly enough. Their date put me conceiving four days before the condom split :) so I knew it was too early.

BoofayTheOompaLoompaSlayer · 09/04/2018 22:36

@annlee3817 Was your baby larger for dates?

LeighaJ · 10/04/2018 06:36

I think it being a week off is quite possible.

We have thought that our due date was wrong all along and that she's further along by about 5 to 7 days. I started ovulating early a couple of years back being the reason, but no one but us seems to take that into account. Grin We also didn't have scans at the normal times initially because we needed a referral right away for CVS testing which made me wonder if they couldn't accurately date her.

OneForTheRoadThen · 10/04/2018 11:22

Both mine have been dated as 4 days ahead of when I know they were conceived and both have been 91st centile whoppers.

harrietm87 · 10/04/2018 11:25

My scan moved me ahead 5 days. I had ovulation induced the month we conceived so I know their date is wrong - I saw the unfertilised egg in my ovary on a scan 2 days after they say I conceived!

Anyway, since then baby has been measuring slightly small - surprise surprise - it's just a bit younger than they think! I'm 40+2 according to the hospital date but think my actual due date is Friday. Worried they will try to persuade me to have an induction according to their dates so going to really push back.

somersetsoul · 10/04/2018 13:45

I've worked out my dates from my probable conception dates, the scan date works out right with that!

Maybe I ovulated really early!

I was put a week ahead at my 12 week scan. I'll admit I wasn't 100% sure of dates but a week was definitely too early for what I worked out!

My baby was 4 days late in the end, and on the 50th centile for birth weight so very much normal sized. I think there is always a slight margin for error at scans, and equally our bodies don't quite run to timetable for conception!

Speedy85 · 10/04/2018 14:06

I've just had my 12 week scan and also been put 2 days ahead of the early date we could have conceived (I had flu the week before conception so didn't DTD) and I was a 10 pound baby with very big shoulders.

I've decided not to worry about it until the 20 week scan though.

Speedy85 · 10/04/2018 14:06
  • earliest, not early
MrsMogginsMinge · 10/04/2018 14:15

My due date was moved forward 5 days (and I knew my dates were right) - I had two scans at 9 wks and 12 wks and they both said the same. DC was born at 40+5, over 9lb and 58cm (!) long...

I also read that if the embryo implants at the early end of normal range they can measure a little ahead - I.e. a 6dpo implanter will measure ahead of a 11dpo implanter. I have a short luteal phase so mine have to get tucked in early in order to make it at all.

So your baby is either big or fast - but they probably won’t come out until they’re ready.

MrsG841 · 10/04/2018 14:21

My 12 week scan they measured me a week ahead. But I know exactly when I had my last period so he he was just growing a little ahead. I had him via section a week early and he was only a tiny and 7lb so doesn't actually mean it will be a big baby

somersetsoul · 10/04/2018 14:25

My previous dc were 7lb and then 8lb 12 so if its the same jump this one will defo be big!

Do they offer early induction or c section for giants?!!

My dates where different too I thought I was 11+5 but I was 12+5 couldn't believe it I was a week ahead. Due 17th October x

OneForTheRoadThen · 11/04/2018 11:19

@somersetsoul yes they do! I'm being induced at 38+3 next week due to my 'clinically large baby' 🙈

somersetsoul · 11/04/2018 12:20

Thank you! I hope it all goes well for you 🙂 You are so lucky to only have a week left x
