Extreme Dizziness

Hi all,

I'm a few days short of 19 weeks pregnant and for the past couple of days I have woken up incredible dizzy. It's so extreme I am stumbling when I walk, being sick and am incredibly disorientated. When it happened yesterday it really shocked and scared me to the point I called my mum in floods of tears (I'm 29) Has anyone else experienced this and can give me any pointers on how to combat it?

Thanks
Hx

Sounds like it could be labrynthitis or some kind of inner ear thing? Can you try and see your GP?

Bluebirdsky · 06/04/2018 21:13

It sounds like it could be vertigo or labyrinthitis but you could also just have very low blood pressure. I would try to see a GP and get checked over.

Thank you both, will get my ears checked out. My BP has been perfect throughout but definitely worth a check. X

I commonly get vertigo during pregnancy. It's a pain in the arse. Cyclazine really helps, which is very safe to take during pregnancy.

My ears and bloods all look fine, I do have low blood pressure though and I think it may be related. It does go after a couple of weeks.

Maybe also consider getting your iron levels checked, in my case dizziness was linked to iron deficiency. (I also had headaches and general exhaustion.) That's when I found out that while pregnant you're supposed to get 30mg of iron a day, that's pretty hard to get to especially if you don't eat meat every day. Don't assume there's enough in your prenatals.

I had low blood pressure which made me very dizzy for the first couple of months of pregnancy. I have also had labyrinthitis which gave me the symptoms you describe. I felt like I was sea sick, horrible. Have you had a cold or anything recently.

Thanks ladies. The weirdest thing is that the midwife at my 16 weeks check up said she has never seen iron levels so high and said it was amazing. BP has also been perfect throughout. Also in terms of ear infection, I haven't had any pain or hearing problems whatsoever. I live in London so GP appointment is super tricky to get, will try again Mon.
