Third trimester rib pain

For the last week or so, I've had sore ribs in the middle of my chest, started at first on the right hand side then spread across, just underneath the bra strap. Feels like it's bruised, very tender and I sometimes get pins and needles there. Midwife says it's normal, just wondering if anyone else has had this and knows how to relieve it?

I've been getting odd feelings under the lower ribs on my right hand side, it feels like little snakes are wriggling in there (I know, terrible analogy, but I can't think of anything else that wriggly!). I have assumed that it's the baby shifting position, could yours be kicking you there a bit harder? 31 weeks here.

I had this quite a bit and was mainly down to my uterus expanding upwards and the position of the baby! He was breech up until 34 weeks and since he turned I don't get it as often. 37 weeks now and only get it the odd occasion when I sleep when he's bunched up high as still hasn't engaged properly yet!

Yes, I have this. It was much worse in my first pregnancy but it’s still very sore, especially at night depending on the way I’m lying. If it’s underneath the bra band and feels bruised could your bra be too tight? I wore an underwired bra last weekend and it bruised my ribs. They were very tender for a few days. That pain has gone now but I still have general rib pain.

I've had that for about 2 months now, but I think I actually tore/strained the muscle rolling over in bed one night. Blush

It won't heal I think in part because it's where my baby likes to snuggle her bum, but also where bra sits. Before baby got bigger I used a cold compress on it but after she got bigger she protested against the cold.

Getting a wireless bra helped some, also wearing a satin nightgown aids my rolling over and holding the sore spot when rolling over. Other than that I try not to touch it because she tends to move around wherever I touch my belly.

Yeah I had this in my second and third pregnancy. It's your ribs being forced apart, very painful. Second pregnancy I suffered, if I held my ribs together with pressure it helped, so I just had my hands there all the time! Microwave heat bag helped too. The next pregnancy it started earlier and I admitted defeat and was given painkillers from doctor, cocodamol. It worked.
