Anyone NOT had GB with their first but have with their second? My bmi is higher this time round and they have changed the test in the last 2 years. I'm really worried this time round. My consultant said it was unlikley to have it this time round but I'm still worrying. Its this friday and on the leaflet i have been given it now says you can drink water just no food or other drinks. Last time i wasnt allowed any liquids or food for 12 hours before.

Very high on both . 40 . Higher first time than second time so I don’t know if that was the cause. Don’t worry the test is not that bad.

windchimesabotage · 04/04/2018 18:21

Im in the same boat! My test is next week. I did not have it in my first pregnancy but I am heavier this time.
Ive been sent for it because a relative has type 2 diabetes.
I really hope I dont have it as I want a home birth and I dont think I would be able to have one if I have gestational diabetes as it raises risks.

My midwife told me I could not eat or drink anything but sips of water for ten hours before the test and the test itself will last two hours.

Water is fine. Risk factors go up with age family history and BMI. But to be honest family history is usually the main factor.

windchimesabotage · 04/04/2018 18:24

im not sure that BMI is always related anyway because my friend developed it with her first and had no family history and was a size 8!! not even remotely overweight.

I think if your consultant says its unlikely for you then try and not worry. They often get signs from your urine samples anyway, that you have it even without the test.... so if they were thinking you may well have it they would have told you. Im sure they will just be doing the test to be on the safe side.

I think my bmi this time is 34 well was i don't think its that now. My grandad has diabetes but not sure which type. My mum says his is from getting old. I guess its just a wait and see. My letter says i don't have to stay in the hospital for the 2 hours if i don't want to x

Is it just sips of water you are allowed instead of drinking a full glass?

Well todays the day. Not sure if i should be vaping before but doesn't say not too only not to smoke during the test. I am dreading it so much. Half an hour before i was not allowed to eat for 12 hours i had an icecream and mini eggs so hope that doesn't affect it!

My BMI was 26 and I have GD - I don't meet any of the risk criteria.

It also doesn't stop you having a home birth, I am (unless baby decides otherwise)

Hope all goes ok 😊

SamanthaH92 · 06/04/2018 09:48

Theyve given me the drink, took bloods first. Drank drink now sent me home to come back later. Very different to last time x

Think it varies from hospital to hospital. I had to sit in a room without moving for two hours because they wanted me to rest.

SamanthaH92 · 06/04/2018 13:11

Thats what i did last time. Had bloods taken, drank lucozade and sat for 2 hours then had bloods taken again. This time i don't even know what it was but the drink was awful, syrup was the only way i can describe it. So in that test i walked for 40 minutes. I'm just waiting now she said i should know by tomorrow morning. What happens if you fail do you have another? X

The only other thing worrying me is apparently you shouldn't smoke before or during the test. I don't smoke but i vaped before. I hope this hasn't effected it x

I had a disgusting glucose pouch I had to drink at home, then go to hospital 2 hours later for bloods.

If you fail, they wouldn't retest, they'd diagnose on that basis.

SamanthaH92 · 06/04/2018 20:45

I stopped eating and drink 5 mins close to the cut of point for fasting. I am sure that they are going to call me tomorrow and say i have it and i still am worrying my self. I don't think i should off left and just stayed for the two hours otherwise how are they getting an accurate result
