Late period - negative result

I am a 27 yr old female. I usually have regular periods except for when I am travelling. In which case my periods get delayed.

My last period started in on the 18th Feb and ended on 23 Feb. I did have unprotected intercourse during the fertile window period.

According to my calculation my period should have come on 23rd March. However, haven't had any yet! Took a pregnancy test last week which came out negative and took two this morning which also turned out negative.

Some days before my period was due I noticed some dark brownish spots on panty. Not sure what it was but thinking maybe it was the implantation bleeding.

I have been slightly nauseous, having slight cramps and moody and my nipples have been sore when touched. I do usually get sore nipple 2-3 days before my period is due but this time it has been a week and no periods.

I have been on antibiotics for an infection. I contacted my doctor to ask if that could have caused the delay she said the antibiotics prescribed to me do not interfere with the menstrual cycle and asked me to take a test and repeat after one week if negative.

Please help! Has anyone had a negative pregnancy test and actually turned out to be pregnant? How long after did u know u were pregnant? Did u have any symptoms at all?

It could be the infection itself rather than the antibiotics causing a delayed period. I've had mine delayed more than once from a virus, bacterial infection, and food poisoning.

Unfortunately early pregnancy symptoms are often almost indistinguishable from PMS. :/

Maybe try another test in a few days if it still hasn't started.

Thank you for your reply. I have a cyst in my neck. Spoke to the doctor about everything. She said none of this would interfere with the cycle. And asked me to take pregnancy tests and repeat it after a week. And if still negative consult a gynae!

A test a week after a delayed period, especially taken in the morning, will almost definitely give an accurate result. Sickness and stress can delay periods so it’s possible your infection has delayed it.

Had this a few months ago. My period ended up six weeks late, usually like clockwork. I had what I thought were symptoms and kept getting repeated negative pregnancy tests.
I still have no idea what was going on, but I just randomly came on one day!
It was a very confusing and stressful time. I am currently 7 weeks pregnant a few months later though Smile All the best for you, for whatever out come you'd like, although I think the negative tests are pretty indicative. Only I didn't accept that very easily myself, so I know how it feels!
