20 week scan

My scan isn't until 9th May. I'm currently 15 weeks and fretting about my scan worrying that they will find something seriously wrong with the baby.
How common is it for them to detect something wrong at the 20 week scan? I'm booking myself in for a private reassurance scan for when I'm about 18 weeks, so would they pick up something at that scan if there is something majorly wrong?

As you can tell I am suffering from terrible anxiety.

I totally get it. I find pregnancy v stressful because I was one of the very few unlucky ones who did have a problem at her 20 week scan. I know from obsessive research that serious problems occur in less than 1% of pregnancies so chances are all is well. Try to rationalise your thoughts and fears and best of luck x

DRS I'm so sorry to hear about what you've been through. Flowers
In all of my other pregnancies these worries never even crossed my mind because I kind of just assumed things go well if you know what I mean. All of them were perfect pregnancies. But after an early pregnancy loss last year it's made me feel completely different in this pregnancy. I'm so anxious and worry constantly about things that could go wrong.

It's quite likely that anything major would be picked up at your 18 week scan but they are unlikely to go into the same level of detail as your 20 week scan so smaller things could be missed.
If you look at the "Screening Tests for you and Your Baby" booklet it tells you the likelihood of the different conditions being detected.
Overall though it is quite rare and the majority of women won't have any problems detected on the scan, I know that doesn't really make it any less scary though.

Op my 20 week scan is exactly the same date as yours. I am also 15 weeks. I’ve been worrying about this also. What is the difference between issues at 12 and 20 weeks? It’s my first so I am in the dark really. I hate reading the booklet as it just worries me more.
