Flu in third trimester

Despite having the flu jab months ago, I now have flu at 33 weeks pg.

Has anyone else had flu in the third trimester? How long did it take you to get over it? I'm 2.5 weeks in and starting to feel a bit better. I've got 2 weeks left at work and I'd like to go in to tidy up loose ends, but I can't see me making it in next week. I think I need to rest more.

I'm worried that I might not be fully recovered before giving birth. I've had HG throughout too so my health has been pretty abysmal of late.

I can't even remember what it feels like to be physically well anymore Sad

Haven't had the flu but wanted to tell you I can't remember what it is like to feel well either! Just one symptom after another. I hope you're feeling better soon. I've got a week left until due date and part of me is convinced I will still feel pregnant afterwards!

Ive had flu twice, but I wasn't pregnant. The first time I went back to work after 2 weeks, which was as soon as i could stay awake from 8am-6pm. With hindsight it was too early as it took me about three months to get completely back to normal.
The second time it was much milder (i think because I'd had the vaccine that year so partial immunity). I only needed a week off and was back to normal in about a month.
I understand why you'd want to go in, but my advice is not to push yourself and to stay off until you're sure you're ready. You'll want to have recovered as much as possible before baby arrives.
Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks both. I tried Tobago out yesterday for a couple of hours and I was nearly in tears at the end of it. back to bed.

Definitely have the fear that ill still feel this crap after giving birth!!!

Maybe Tobago was a step to far? Maybe try Starbucks first! Wink

Have you spoken to a doctor? Pregnant women fall within the higher risk group for pregnancy and NICE guidance recommends that you should be offered an antiviral like zanamavir or oseltamivir but it needs to be given within the first 48 hours to be most effective.

I think you may need to make peace with the fact that you won’t be able to do a full two weeks at work. Your Dr can sign you off so that this doesn’t trigger your mat leave if necessary.

Yes Tobago may well have been a bit ambitious Grin

Yeah I saw the dr as I thought it had pneumonia. Spent a night in hospital, but as the symptoms started 3 days prior then antivirals wouldn't have been much use. Am currently on a sick note and dr is happy to extend.

Have resigned myself to another week off in bed.
