Hi, I'm 41, and 4w 4d pregnant. Trying not to get too excited yet as I know it's high risk.
Any other 40+ people out there? How are you getting on?

Thinking of you today cleo. Hope it turns out ok xxx

TinyTerror1 · 11/05/2018 08:16

Snorebrown I would usually say no but there is a post just now on the antenatal tests board from someone whose NHS screening came back 1:169 but had the harmony test for peace of mind and has been given 99% likelihood of Down's. So I don't know what to suggest! That said, for you to be 40 and get a low risk must mean that your bloods were absolutely perfect, I didn't even know it was possible to be low risk at our age!

kirinm · 11/05/2018 08:39

Snorebrown - I'm 40 and my results were low risk too. Something like 1:1700 for downs and 1:3000 for t13 and t18. I didn't have any further tests. I'm 23w3d now and all scans have been good. Baby also had a cardiac scan which showed no problems. I personally felt quite reassured by the score given my age.

kirinm · 11/05/2018 08:41

@TinyTerror1 1:169 wouldn't be low risk in my NHS trust. Anything below 1:500 was considered an increased risk and the harmony test would be offered.

TinyTerror1 · 11/05/2018 08:53

Really? I'm fairly sure the national threshold for high risk is 1:150. That's taken from my pregnancy encyclopedia not local trust information. So 1:169 is only just safe, which I'm guessing is why she went for the Harmony test (the poster on that one also referred to herself as being low risk).

TinyTerror1 · 11/05/2018 08:54

It maybe that trusts offering NIPT do so at a lower risk than they used to. My risk was 1:5 so I don't know what would be normal here.

sparklyglitterball · 11/05/2018 09:01

My risk was around 1400 for downs, and something like 11500 for the other syndromes. I'm 41, and was reassured enough by that result. I did ask the sonographer if she could detect the nasal bone, and the NT measurement was 1.5mm. I probably would've had the harmony with a result fairly close to the cut off.

sparklyglitterball · 11/05/2018 09:03

Do you know the actual figures of your results snorebrown?

kirinm · 11/05/2018 09:50

It might well be considered low risk but definitely at that level my trust would be offering other tests. I was so sure I'd end up with other tests being offered so was very shocked to get such a low risk. I appreciate a 25 year old wouldn't be that reassured by a 1:1700 result but I was. Plus they could see the nasal bone (as could I). I'm at a fetal research centre so perhaps they offer more than the average hospital?

Snorebrown · 11/05/2018 13:02

Not yet sparkly i am awaiting a letter which i hope will have the numbers on...

Cleozeta · 11/05/2018 14:46

So, I've had a missed miscarriage. Baby stopped growing just after I saw heartbeat at 6+4.
Now it's the waiting game to properly miscarry.
Good luck in your pregnancies ladies, and thanks for all the help and advice x

Cleo, I’m so sorry Flowers

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 11/05/2018 15:02

Snorebrown Would depend on the actual figures I think. We decided that anything less than 1 in 1000 we would pay for the test (someone from my ante-natal class with ds had a low risk result, wasn't offered further testing and had a child with down syndrome). Came back 1 in 3800 ish for down syndrome which was better than ds's results 3 years earlier so didn't and it's a bit late now as I'm due in 4 weeks.

Cleozeta So sorry to hear that Flowers.

TinyTerror1 · 11/05/2018 15:21

Oh cleo I'm so sorry Flowers

Snorebrown · 11/05/2018 16:33

Oh Cleo i am so so sorry. Take care xxx

JoJoyorker · 11/05/2018 16:45

Oh no Cleo 😞 I've been checking all day to see how you got on but I wasn't expecting to read that. I really am so sorry x

Cleozeta · 11/05/2018 17:08

I kind of had a feeling, especially after yesterdays spotting and loss of symptoms, so I was not shocked.
I'm gutted to be honest, and this may have been my last chance. But what will be will be.

I’m so sorry for your loss Cleo. Sending big hugs Flowers

JoJoyorker · 11/05/2018 19:52

That's what we assume at this age if it doesn't work out it's our last chance but I don't think that's the case at all. I hope it happens quickly for you and isn't to traumatic for you. It must be so hard x

sparklyglitterball · 11/05/2018 20:22

So sorry to read this Cleo. You must be devastated. It doesn't have to be your last chance. Take some time to heal, be really kind to yourself. Thanks

Cleozeta · 11/05/2018 21:32

Thanks. I hope its not last chance but it is a worry. Took over a year to conceive this one, I don't have age on my side to do that again.

What’s “ Mmc “ please?

JoJoyorker · 13/05/2018 23:11

It's a missed miscarriage

Monkeypuzzle32 · 13/05/2018 23:16

Ekphrasis so pleased to hear your news-I was on the old thread-DD is now 21 weeks!!

sorry to hear that Cleo

TinyTerror1 · 16/05/2018 11:01

I've just had my 20-week scan and fetal echocardiogram after baby had a high NT measurement at 12 weeks. Everything is fine with baby, such a relief. I'd got to the point where I thought I was imagining movement and everything would have gone wrong 🙄 anyway delighted with the result! I feel very lucky.

Finally sorted out my transfer to consultant led care too, the scanning midwife went above and beyond to investigate and discovered I'd never been referred (my midwife went off sick so it was never followed up) so now I'm being squeezed in while I'm at the hospital. Very happy with the NHS today 👍💙
