Hi, I'm 41, and 4w 4d pregnant. Trying not to get too excited yet as I know it's high risk.
Any other 40+ people out there? How are you getting on?

Thanks Tiny. Can you get NT measurement without doing the whole test? Or can I just request bloods not be done? I'm quite happy to avoid the blood test thing as it'll probably be high because of age and that will just freak me out!!
Oh dear not sure what we will do with the kids if they are not allowed in as we've been given a 9am appointment and we don't drive so will need to leave at 7.15am. However lovely our friends are I'm not sure they would appreciate our kids on their doorstep at 7am!!! Maybe DH will have to stay outside with them. We are having the 10 week scan anyway so he'll have seen it before!
So exciting and nerve wrecking at the same time

I think it depends on where you get your scan. My childcare for my 20 week scan fell through last minute. They were fine with ds (3) being there although he and dh stayed outside until she had checked the heartbeat etc.

He's also been to my 32 week growth scan as again had nowhere else for him to go due to timings but I was more relaxed about that one.

They try and take the NT measurement as part of the general 12 week scan as far as I know and then do the bloods afterwards because if baby isn't co-operating then there is no point taking blood, so I don't see why you couldn't get the measurement and then decline the bloods or just tell them you'd like to know if possible and that you've have/having the NIPT.

@Snorebrown Yep.

TinyTerror1 · 02/05/2018 14:06

Hi Cleo. The NT measurement is done during your scan so is just part of the routine of the scan like measuring baby for dating. The bloods are taken after. The measurement, your age and the blood test results are run through a computer algorithm and you get the risk results a few days later. Just explain that you've had the NIPT so don't need the combined test and they won't take the bloods.

I'm pretty sure they do the NT measurement anyway and you find that out immediately (in my case by the midwife becoming incredibly agitated and stressed out which really didn't make us feel any better for the next 9 days waiting to see the consultant, but I guess she doesn't get many high measurements). A high measurement is really rare, the cutoff is the 99th percentile, so don't worry too much about getting one it's really unlikely.

As for the children you could ask to switch your scan date or time if you can bear to wait a bit longer or else as you say DH will have to wait outside with them. They might let them in for a brief peak at the end if the scan has gone well and midwife is friendly!

Congratulations on the scan snore! Cleo I had NIPT last time and when I told them at my 12 week scan they said not to bother with the NHS testing but they did still do the NT measurement. I think it's a routine measurement they do with all the others.

MrsPoopyPants · 02/05/2018 22:52

I had NIPT testing too and the clinic said to not have the NHS combined test at my first scan as it can throw up high probability and cause worry unnecessarily. The NIPT is the most accurate result out of them all. I still had bloods taken though as they check for other things.

Cleozeta · 03/05/2018 09:48

Ok thanks all! Glad they do NT measurement anyway. I was worrying about having the NHS test as well as I know age will scew it, so I'll just say no to that. I guess I just won't bother filling out the form that came with the appointment letter then?
Hope everyone is well

Got my consultant appointment letter today. Things seem to be happening now! Need to decide weather to have a third c-section or try for vbac... anyone else making this choice? Midwife seemed to assume I'd do an elective C, but I'm not sure

OP posts:
TinyTerror1 · 04/05/2018 18:41

According to my pregnancy encyclopedia there's a 1% chance of a tear along your scar during contractions if you've had two sections. It might be worth talking through the risks with the consultant. I'm a FTM so I'm no real help (although trying to make my own decision about elective C).

Is the consultant appointment because you're under a consultant for age reasons? I was told I'm under a consultant but still haven't seen one and no one I've spoken to seems to know what's going on Hmm hoping for answers at the 20-week scan.

Cleozeta · 04/05/2018 19:39

I think I'm consultant led because of previous sections. I remember having an appointment last time to discuss weather I was having elective or vbac. I think it'll be the same. Appointment is in July when I'll be about 20 weeks, they sent off the request at booking

OP posts:
JoJoyorker · 04/05/2018 19:48

I noticed in my notes it says consultant led. I assume for age reasons as no other risks? And I had a smooth first pregnancy and birth. I tried to change my 12 wk scan appointment but it had to be on a certain day when a consultant was in.

TinyTerror1 · 04/05/2018 20:15

JoJo yes I think I'm consultant led for age reasons or age+FTM, I've no other risks. I'm guessing practice varies by area, as for everything else! I didn't see a consultant for my 12 week scan. Not sure if this is because my midwife forgot to put me in the system as CLC or whether it just doesn't work that way in Birmingham 🤔

Cleozeta · 07/05/2018 09:30

Jojo when is your NIPT? Mine is on 18th, so just under 2 weeks, and 12 week scan nearly 2 weeks after that on 30th. It can't come soon enough tbh! Feel like I have been waiting forever, and finding it really hard keeping the secret and now getting nervous again that things have / will go wrong. The 1st trimester is by far the hardest!

OP posts:
JoJoyorker · 07/05/2018 15:29

Hi Cleo, mine is a little earlier than yours. NIPT a week today 😏 14th May I should have the results by the Friday. 12 wk scan 23rd May. I know what you mean I keep thinking something has gone wrong and they will be telling me the heartbeat has stopped. So worried about it all and then there's the NIPT results to worry about

Cleozeta · 07/05/2018 16:29

Yeah it's so stressful isn't it! Will be so glad when it's done. Will look forward to hearing your results first then! Fingers crossed we have nothing to worry about

OP posts:
Cleozeta · 09/05/2018 16:17

10 weeks today and I've just had pink spotting. Now worried I won't even make it as far as the scan next Friday

OP posts:
TinyTerror1 · 09/05/2018 17:33

Try not to panic! Pink sounds very light. I had light spotting three or four times in the first trimester. I did freak out a bit every time but it's perfectly normal (the spotting and the panicking). Hugs xx

JoJoyorker · 09/05/2018 17:52

Try not to panic. I remember having some brown at about 11 weeks last time. I did contact the midwife and they scanned me. Could you speak to yours? If they will do one it will reassure you. From everything I read on here spotting is so much more common than I realised.

Cleozeta · 09/05/2018 18:06

I've left a message with the local midwife group, I should get a call back tomorrow. I really hope it's nothing. So hard not to panic!

OP posts:
JoJoyorker · 09/05/2018 19:20

Hopefully they will get back to you tomorrow. When I had it last time they sent me for a scan that day. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about but you just think the worst don't you. It does seem to be quite common.

JoJoyorker · 10/05/2018 20:03

How are you Cleo? Have you had anymore spotting and did you see the midwife? Hoping all ok

Cleozeta · 10/05/2018 21:11

Had more spotting today, it's brown now. Midwife said just keep an eye on it. I called epu today too as I just don't feel right. They said same as midwife, so no help there. I've booked a private scan for tomorrow instead, but I don't think this will end well. Aside from the brown spotting I just feel 'wrong'. I have mega chills and can't eat anything

OP posts:
JoJoyorker · 10/05/2018 22:55

That's such a shame they wouldn't see you. As I said I had brown last time so try not to think the worst. Private scan is a good idea I would do the same. The chills and not eating could be because you are anxious and worried. I hope you can get some sleep and wishing you all the best for tmrw. Please let us know will be thinking of you.

sparklyglitterball · 11/05/2018 05:40

Really hoping all is well Cleo. Good news it's turned brown now so hopefully that's the end of it. I don't blame you for getting a private scan. Do you still have pregnancy symptoms?

Snorebrown · 11/05/2018 08:07

Thinking of you for today cleo

Snorebrown · 11/05/2018 08:08

A quick question...my NT and combined bloods came back as low risk but wondering whether to still have NIPT. What do you think?
