Hi, I'm 41, and 4w 4d pregnant. Trying not to get too excited yet as I know it's high risk.
Any other 40+ people out there? How are you getting on?

I’m 42 and 8 weeks
Had a private scan last week and seen the heartbeat

I am so emotional and crying loads but I don’t know if that is because my relationship is crumbling or my hormones - probably both

I am exhausted and nauseous but not been sick

Apart from that all going ok.

lilacandlavender · 01/04/2018 12:05

Congratulations!
I’m 45 and 7w 4d. We had a scan last week and saw the heartbeat so I’ve moved from worrying about miscarriage to worrying about chromosomal problems (obviously I know miscarriage can still happen but would most likely be because of chromosomes).
It’s nice to meet some others in their 40s!
So far this pregnancy has actually been easier than my other one, when I was 39, as I have not had too much nausea. I’m tired but I do t think it’s quite as bad yet.
How are you feeling so far?

lilacandlavender · 01/04/2018 12:08

I meant to say, are you high risk just because of age or for any other reason? I’m at slightly high risk of placenta problems because

lilacandlavender · 01/04/2018 12:09

of previous problems but that’s not really an issue until the second trimester.

NicoleSalski · 01/04/2018 12:09

I'm not in my 40s, but a close friend of mine had her little girl at 43. Little one is now 13 and not so little anymore. No complications and very straightforward pregnancy. They are the loveliest family and I aspire to be like them as they are like that perfect family unit you only see in the movies.

Hope all goes well with your pregnancy. Congratulations Thanks

Fidgety31 · 01/04/2018 12:14

The only issue I have had identified so far is a fibroid in my womb - but that could happen at any age

LoniceraJaponica · 01/04/2018 12:21

Congratulations. I had DD at 41. I had a high risk pregnancy, but actually had a very easy one in the end. DD is 17 now.

Cleozeta · 01/04/2018 12:22

Congrats both! Must be so lovely to hear the heartbeat and know all is well on that front. Will you be getting harmony tests for chromasome issues? I will be considering that if all is well and we get that far. I'm currently in the miscarrage fear zone. Might get a private scan at 7 weeks too.
Feel very lucky to have got pregnant at all as I was in confirmed perimenopause and had an FSH of 18.4 which is super high. I just really hope it continues as I think this will be my last chance.
So far feeling not too bad, quite tired and feel nauseous when hungry. But I will welcome more symptoms with open arms!
Fidgety- Sorry to hear things are emotionally dificult. It's even harder sometimes when our hormones are all over the place. Hope you are ok and things get easier.

Thanks - I’m quite a positive person normally and think things can only get better !!
I won’t be having any additional tests etc - what will be will be.
This baby was not planned so there’s a lot to take in.
It’s older brothers will be 21, 16 and 9 when it arrives so I feel like I’m starting all over again !

Cleozeta · 01/04/2018 12:30

Nicole - sounds lovely, your friends are very lucky Smile
Lonicera - thats reassuring! Just because its high risk, there isn't always going to be a problem.
Lilac - mainly high risk because of age, and the perimenopause thing. They say chances of miscarrage are something crazy like 1 in 2?

Fidgety - that's some good age gaps there. Handy really - they can help!! Wink

Congrats guys. I got pregnant for the first time at 38 and the second time at 40. No issues no dramas. I don't remember being classed as high risk - just a geriatric mother or something equally as galling! It's not your age but your reproductive / general health that's important. Best of luck for an easy pregnancy! Smile

Cleozeta · 01/04/2018 12:48

Congrats jellycat, sounds ideal. Geritatric mothers haha so rude!! Wink
I am slightly concerned that my reproductive heath may be an issue, general heath is good. I have early menopause in my family and it was starting for me. Hopefully we have caught that last good egg! Feeling very hopeful but anxious at the same time

Hi all and thanks for the thread Cleo Smile
I'm 41 and we have a dd who is 18 months. I think I am 4 wks 3 days pregnant. Currently just worrying and not feeling too hopeful. I have absolutely no symptoms which is very different to DD. I had period pains pretty much all day yesterday so I fear that is the start of something. I did do another test this morning and it was darker so I feel a bit more hopeful today. The pains just worry me as I never had that last time. Nice to hear from others in the same age and the success stories!

GoodJobShesCute · 01/04/2018 13:00

Congrats Cleozeta! I'm not 40+ (although not far off) but my Mum was 45 when she had me and as far as I know had a straightforward pregnancy and a total gem of a child 😉

Wishing you a healthy happy pregnancy!

Cleozeta · 01/04/2018 13:05

You are 1 day behind me jojo! I know what you mean about the worrying. I am the same. Been analysing every twinge and panic every time I feel 'normal'. I also have been comparing with previous pregnancies, my first was really smooth sailing with hardly any symptoms, my second I did get more twinges and aches in the womb early on. I think we may feel more with subsiquent pregnancies? My womb feels achey overnight and I am aware of its presence, but no pains as such yet. I also panicked last night because I was not as tired as I feel I should have been, but we need to remember it is still very early days!!
Good sign that your test is still dark, I'll be checking mine again later too

Btw yes I had Harmony both times. Party because I was desperate to know the sex! And it's really reassuring to know all is ok. Are you in London? I had (way too many!) scans at the Fetal Medicine Centre and I'll love them forever.

zaalitje · 01/04/2018 13:17

40+ here and 32 very nervous weeks in.

I'm tired a lot recently but think that's normal for third trimester, though maybe a little worse due to age.

JoJoyorker · 01/04/2018 13:25

Yes I'm analysing everything and googling far too much. If I get that far I will definitely have harmony or Panorama testing again. I would feel a little more relaxed if I had some symptoms. I remember having very sore boobs at this stage last time.

JoJoyorker · 01/04/2018 13:25

Not long for you to go now Zaa. Has everything gone ok so far?

SVRT19674 · 01/04/2018 16:36

I am 43 and 19 weeks pregnant with first daughter. Good luck! I am also classed as high risk because of age and glucose tolerance test was borderline. Nothing else wrong. A colleague at work is also classed as high risk and is only 34! She's had quite a few problems, though, I believe mine is a better safe than sorry. Fine with me. Get extra scans and see my daughter more often!

Cleozeta · 01/04/2018 16:57

Do we get extra scans if we are high risk then SVRT?
Jojo are you having no symptoms at all? I think it's a slow build up isn't it. Mine seem to come and go but had more today. Boobs are bigger already, they keep popping out of my bra! Better not wear anything low cut haha
Jellycat - no I'm not in London, I'm in Cambridge. Need to research private scan places.

OP posts:
SVRT19674 · 01/04/2018 17:12

@Cleozeta Well I'm in Madrid and we do here! They see me once a month and I get a scan every time. Not really sure how it goes over your way. The 20 week scan is my next one, which is standard, and after that another at 22 weeks with my high risk unit consultant.

JoJoyorker · 01/04/2018 17:13

No symptoms at all. The only thing I can think of is I might be a bit more tired than usual. I will get in touch with the doctors next week and see if I can get my HCG checked. It's quite a nice line on test so thought I'd feel more. If you are over 40 is it right they like to induce you before due date?
