Hi, I'm 41, and 4w 4d pregnant. Trying not to get too excited yet as I know it's high risk.
Any other 40+ people out there? How are you getting on?

Congratulations! I'm 41 and 31 weeks with my first (and probably only). I'm consultant led but despite my age and having anti-E antibodies, I'm not classed as high risk - we get extra scans though due to the antibodies which is great. We went for Harmony too and that was a real reassurance.

Cleozeta · 05/04/2018 10:50

Congrats! Lovely to hear of other older ladies pregnancies that are going well, it's very reassuring!
I got the results of my progesterone test today. It was 82.4 at 4+1. I guess that's ok?

I've no idea Cleo, have you had a look on google or did the doctor indicate? I had day 21 bloods and they were around that figure but not sure for pregnancy?

perfectpanda · 05/04/2018 20:09

Congratulations to you all . I'm just feeding dc3 who I had just before my 45th birthday. Best pregnancy and smooth labour. The hospital staff were all fine with me. And best of all, other than making an extra effort with my grey roots, I have completely forgotten how old I am now, it feels totally irrelevant!

kitty1013 · 05/04/2018 22:15

Hi there, I'm 44 and 15+4 with a somewhat unplanned DC6. I had DC5 when I was 41 and other than being induced at term I didn't have any special treatment.

However this time I have extra scans automatically booked in at 28, 32, 36 and 39 weeks! Has anyone else had this?? The midwife says this is now standard practice in my area for my age. I'm not complaining but quite surprised!
Kitty xx

PetraRabbit · 05/04/2018 22:29

Hate to bring down all the wonderful positivity here but I went for a scan before doing NIPT testing this week, and there was no heartbeat at 10 weeks. The baby had died the week before.

I posted recently feeling invincible as I got pregnant fairly easily at 41 to have my first DC last year and got pregnant first try this time. I feel like I was delusional to think it couldn't happen to me. I just feel overwhelming urgency to try again after what will probably have to be a D & C. The feeling that time is running out is awful and everyone I know in real life in this position is years younger than me and just interested in the "take your time and grieve the baby" aspect.

Good luck to everyone and congratulations on all your positive scans and results. They should make me sad but I'm trying to take hope from them.

kitty1013 · 05/04/2018 22:41

Oh I'm so sorry Petra. When I was 42 I had two miscarriages at 9 weeks . I thought this meant I was past it as they were at exactly the same point. Now at 44 , I have got past that stage and things are going ok (touch wood).
I'm so sorry . Its heartbreaking but don't let it put you off trying again. You do still have time. Xxxx

JoJoyorker · 06/04/2018 07:31

So sorry to hear that Petra. It's heartbreaking. Hopefully you will find it straight forward getting pregnant again and you do still have time. X

kirinm · 06/04/2018 07:42

I'm 40 and currently 18+3. I came back low risk after my nuchal and despite me having a history of recurrent miscarriage and bleeding multiple times during this pregnancy, baby is still hanging on in there. I've not had one doctor or midwife mention my age. I'm high risk but that's due to an issue I had during labour when I had my son nearly 22 years ago.

I still feel like baby has been pretty miraculous and jumped so many hurdles to get to this stage given my age and medical history. I'm hoping for a positive anomaly scan. Good luck ladies!

JoJoyorker · 06/04/2018 13:44

Do you get extra midwife appointments when you are over 40? I have had a letter saying my booking in appointment is next week which seems early as I will only be 6 wks.
That's great Kirinm that you have not had your age mentioned. It does seem a lot more acceptable these days. Pleased everything is going well for you Smile

kirinm · 06/04/2018 14:06

I'm having one extra scan but that's due to my pre-existing medical condition. It's certainly not been suggested (yet) that I need a scan for age reasons.

brogueish · 06/04/2018 15:11

I'm having serial scans, but due to antibodies rather than age.

The cut off round here is over 40 at booking. I conceived at 40 but was 41 at my booking appt (two weeks after my 41st birthday!) so I'm having to persuade the local hospital to let me use the MW led unit. Ridiculous "computer says no" response imo, I'm low risk otherwise and booking appt dates can be really variable...

AiredaleFan · 06/04/2018 18:20

Petra I'm so sorry to hear your news. Miscarriage is tough on anyone, but I think that when you're older it can be very hard because people tell you your chances are limited. But everyone on this thread is proof that you should keep your hopes up.

AiredaleFan · 06/04/2018 18:25

Kitty, that is a lot of extra scans! I'm glad to hear that most people on this thread aren't being treated differently because of their age, I guess I'm a bit jaded because my experience with my daughter was quite different. I was automatically referred to the consultant (who was awful), had to go to the main hospital 50 miles away instead of the local mw led unit for the birth, and was told not to bother with the neuchal fold test because my age factor meant it would come out at high risk. Luckily my friend who is the same age had her test a fortnight before me and it came out low risk, so I went ahead and sure enough mine came out low risk too.

PetraRabbit · 07/04/2018 20:31

Thank you to everyone who wished me well. Roll on next time. :)

Esined1976 · 07/04/2018 22:06

I'm 41, will be 42 in July and currently 36w 2d pregnant. I haven't been treated any differently because of my age or made to feel old. In fact the only times my age has been mentioned was when I asked why I was having a GD test and when she they said they won't let me go overdue due to being over 40.
Last week the consultant asked me if I was planning any more after this (I have an 11 year old already). I laughed and said I'd be too old and she said I'm not and she has patients much older than me.

Cleozeta · 08/04/2018 08:05

Sorry for you loss petra. It's such a worrying and fragile time. I find I am counting down the days, almost minute by minute, grateful for each uneventful day that passes and takes me closer. Still only 5+4 and aware of being in the massive high risk zone!
Congrats to all the others that have made it out of the dangerzone and are now looking forward to meeting their babies Smile

JoJoyorker · 08/04/2018 12:30

I know what you mean Cleo, I feel the same. I've booked an early scan for sat 21st so I'll be just over 7 weeks.

Cleozeta · 08/04/2018 13:41

Mine is on Friday 20th jojo! Hope we both get good results. I'm so worried about it. I hear & read so many stories of people going to scans and not seeing a heartbeat. It seems so common. Each day seems to be dragging at the moment. And I'm constantly checking for symptoms and worrying they are going. Prodding my boobs around to make sure they still hurt, and in the mornings I wait to have breakfast until I feel crap enough that it justifies a mild morning sickness, although its more of a raging hunger that I get than a sickness. Are you getting symptoms yet?

OP posts:
JoJoyorker · 08/04/2018 14:02

I know I keep reading about no heartbeat at scans too. I keep looking at the miscarriage board, in a way I want to be prepared for what could happen and to know the options but then it does just make you think the worst. They also had an Appointment for next Saturday but looking online there seems to be a massive difference between what you can see at 6 and 7 weeks so I thunk it's better to wait. Absolutely no boob pain, I'm constantly prodding them too! I am tired and if I'm hungry I feel some vague nausea but that's all. My Hcg blood result should be back tmrw. I'm dreading it's going to be so low and that's why I have no symptoms.

Cleozeta · 08/04/2018 15:47

I have been doing exactly the same, reading all the miscarrage things so I am prepared. But I think it's just convinced me it'll go wrong. Everywhere I read it goes on about the high chance of miscarrage at our age, it makes it seem almost impossible that it will ccontinue. I am having very mild symptoms. Boobs hurt. I get mega hungry not long after being full and very mild nausea when hungry. The last few days I have been super tired too. Just the constant waiting is driving me nuts!
I think my progesterone result was fine. It was 82.4 so much higher than my day 21 which was 28.4. GP marked it as 'satisfactory' and dr google seems to think it's ok.
Good luck with your hcg results, let us know how it goes. Have you requested it because of lack of symptoms?

OP posts:
JoJoyorker · 08/04/2018 20:01

Time is going so slowly! I think by thinking it's all going to go wrong we are protecting ourselves if it does. We aren't assuming it's all going to be ok. I had my hcg tested last time as my symptoms disappeared. So I just asked if they would check it as I didn't have any symptoms, I think the doctor could see I was anxious.

Cleozeta · 08/04/2018 20:34

I think it's a good idea. It will hopefully put your mind at rest.
Now we just have the 3 year wait until next Friday/Saturday. But to be honest, if we can hang on till then with nothing going wrong that'd be great as apparently chances of miscarrage go down once a hearbeat has been spotted at 7 weeks. That will hopefully be us!!!
Sooooo nervous.....

OP posts:
JoJoyorker · 08/04/2018 20:45

Yes I read that earlier when deciding whether to have it at 6 or 7 wks. If heartbeat seen at 6wks risk goes down to 10% and at 7wks down to 5%. I really do hope that is us. It's such an anxious wait. I think I'm going to have to go on my own as it's difficult to get anyone to have our DC and I'm not sure it's the best place for her.

JoJoyorker · 09/04/2018 08:25

I don't know how to tag someone on here but I was just wondering how cameonholiday got on with your harmony test results? Hope it was all ok.
