20 week scan

I had my 20 week scan a few weeks ago & found the whole thing a bit disheartening. The lady who did it just didn't seem interested she didn't really speak to us throughout & at the end told me she couldn't get a picture for us and that was it.
The more I've thought about it & talked to other people I just feel I don't know anything. I don't know where the placenta is or how my baby is positioned.

Am I being stupid or is this something I should bring up with my midwife?

They don't talk much because they have so much to measure and concentrate on but the stenographer should have told you some basics. Chat to your midwife, she’ll no doubt have access to the scan report and can tell you more. No pictures is a shame but the ones I got weren't that great as the baby is bigger so you see body parts rather than a whole baby. I cant made head nor tail of mine expect for one which is of Lo’s foot!

Mine was exactly the same, so I booked a private scan and received a far more in-depth ultrasound. I think the NHS staff must be told to check the basics and if baby's fine, then that's it. If I were you, I'd just book a private one, was definitely worth it for us. Smile

Didn't you get a report for your file with the various measurements she took? I get one after every scan, which includes the placenta position as well.

If not yes I would call the hospital or midwife and ask for it.

Thanks! I think I was judging against my 12 week where she had me up jumping to get a good picture & told us everything as she did it.

If you don't mind me asking how much was your private scan?

I think it was about £55.00 for a 20 minute scan, plus DVD with all the pictures.

Thanks might look into it.

Yeah all the details are in my file and everything is fine just feel like I should no more.

Ah I see. I have scans every two weeks and how chatty/informative they are varies massively between sonographers and how their day going.
